Victoria Park Volunteer, Training and Events Co-Ordinator - Fixed term contract / secondment opportunity up to 31 March 2026 due to funding

Salary: Band 6; £26,073 - £29,777 p.a.

37 hours per week

Your New Role

Victoria Park has been at the heart of Portsmouth for over 140 years. The park has stood as a witness to over a century of change in Portsmouth and beyond, sometimes getting caught up in events and often providing sanctuary within its gates. In December 2021, following extensive local engagement, we were awarded £2.4m of National Lottery Heritage Funding to restore and revitalise the People's Park. The works to provide a new community building - the 'Green House' - and wide-ranging infrastructure and planting improvement works are nearing completion and will ensure the park remains welcoming and inclusive for all its users.

We are looking to appoint a volunteer and training coordinator to assist with the delivery of the Activity Plan of our project. Duties will include the implementing of the Volunteering policy and plan for the park. You will administer the management, supervisory and appraisal process for the volunteers as well as recruiting volunteers to the park from across Portsmouth. In addition, you will be responsible for developing and managing the training programmes for volunteers and project colleagues whilst ensuring volunteers engagement and satisfaction. As well as the volunteer's you will manage the varied activities to be carried out by them and will support the Community Engagement Officer to manager the event diary for the Park. You will also work with the Project and Communication Team on press releases, social media and website content.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have experience of managing, supporting and motivating volunteers and engaging with the local community. With excellent interpersonal skills you will ideally have a good understanding of the social and economic issues affecting communities in Portsmouth as well as experience of working with volunteers in a project setting. Flexible and adaptable ideally you will have a relevant qualification in volunteer management, events management and/or communications, or equivalent experience.
