Job Description
Marie Curie is looking for compassionate, everyday people to join our Companion Team at Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital to support people with a terminal illness.
What does a Companion Volunteer do?
It's simple, really - you'll be there for someone.
You might visit someone and share stories, connect through hobbies/interests, chat about life, update them regarding local or wider activities. Sometimes just a conversation with a cup of tea/coffee in hand provides a steady presence.
What you will do in this volunteer opportunity
What you'll be part of:
- Offering emotional comfort and conversation to different patients in the hospital
- Help someone express what matters most to them
- Share helpful information about our Companion Service
- Point them to local resources and services
- Support family members or carers, before and after bereavement.
- Promote the Companion service to others so they are aware of the service that can be offered
- Encourage others to apply for this volunteer opportunity and get involved in making a difference
You'll receive full training and ongoing support from the Marie Curie Team, and you'll be joining a team who care just as much as you do
Please note that Marie Curie will never ask you to do anything you're not comfortable with
You'd be a great fit if you're:
- Patient and good at listening
- Non-judgmental of others and friendly
- Emotionally mature and steady in sensitive moments
- Able to commit to 3 hours p/week
- Comfortable using email and filling in a short visit report
