Marie Curie is seeking compassionate, everyday people to join our Companion Volunteer Team at our Edinburgh Hospice
What does a Companion Volunteer do?
At its core, this role is about being present for someone in need.
You might:
- Share stories and meaningful conversations.
- Connect through hobbies, interests, or updates on local activities.
- Provide comfort with a steady presence - sometimes, a simple chat over tea or coffee is enough.
What you'll be part of:
- Offering emotional support and companionship to people and their families
- Helping someone express what matters most to them
- Sharing helpful information and guidance
- Communicating key information to staff
- Supporting family members or carers - before and after bereavement
You'll receive full training and ongoing support from the Marie Curie Team, joining the Edinburgh Hospice community that cares just as much as you do.
Please note: Marie Curie will never ask you to do anything you're not comfortable with.
You'd be a great fit if you are:
- Patient and a great listener.
- Non-judgmental, approachable, and friendly.
- Emotionally mature, offering steady support in sensitive moments.
- Able to commit three hours per week.
- Comfortable using email and completing short visit reports.
