Volunteer Driver - Cardiff and the Vale Hospice

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Job Description

As a Volunteer Driver, you'll be the reliable presence that eases someone's worries, ensuring they can get to their appointment.

You don't have to do it alone - comprehensive training and ongoing support will ensure you feel confident behind the wheel. With guidance on safe driving, passenger assistance, and handling unexpected situations, as well as direct access to healthcare professionals for advice where needed. As part of a dedicated team at Marie Curie's Cardiff and the Vale Hospice, you'll be fully supported every step of the way.

Here is what you will be a part of:

  • Driving patients to their appointments, ensuring they arrive safely and on time.
  • Assist passengers in and out of the vehicle if needed, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey
  • Provide light assistance, such as carrying bags, walkers, or other personal items, to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
  • Offer friendly conversation and support along the way - sometimes a listening ear is just as valuable as the transport itself.
  • Follow all road safety regulations and maintain a clean, welcoming vehicle environment

Why you would be a great fit:

  • You are a responsible driver
  • Willing to help others a couple of hours, one day each week
  • Comfortable collaborating with others while also being independent
  • Happy to provide a warm and friendly presence

What you'll receive in return:

  • Travel expenses reimbursed monthly at 45p per mile
  • A sense of real purpose and the chance to make a lasting difference
  • A welcoming volunteer team and a strong support network
  • Ongoing training, development, and guidance
  • Recognition and appreciation for the time you give
  • Other out-of-pocket expenses covered where necessary

Ready to take the next step?

Here is what you'll need to do:

  1. You must be 18 years or older to apply
  2. Have a UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle which is MOT'd, Taxed and Insured.
  3. Complete an online application form, providing 2 non-family references

You might want to chat through the role, ask questions, or just get a feel for what it's really like. Honest information and a warm welcome, with no pressure to apply.
