Job Role

Join us as a Volunteer Mentor at Interventions Alliance and play a key supporting role to the participants we work with (predominantly men over the age of 18 years). You will offer personalised, one-to-one support to help improve participants' lives, equipping them with the skills they need progress in life and avoid being trapped in a cycle of criminality.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to build a better future, regardless of their past choices or the challenges they currently face.

Our ideal candidate will have lived experience of the Criminal Justice System and is now wishing to give back to the community. You must however hit an eligibility criteria e.g. 6 months substance abuse free, complying with your order and taking responsibility of your offending behaviour.

If you don't have this experience, don't worry! We encourage volunteers from all walks of life to reflect the community we serve. You just need to be over the age of 18.

We need your excellent communication skills and empathetic ability to create and maintain effective relationships with our participants. We need you be a positive role model and inspire, empower and guide our participants to achieve their full potential.

In return for your dedication, knowledge, and commitment, we offer an amazing training programme to prepare you for the role. This comprises of both online and classroom training on the following subjects:

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend appointments with the participants
  • Literacy and numeracy support, including filling in forms
  • Encourage engagement such as reminding participants of appointments
  • Provide practical and emotional support to participants
  • Encourage compliance with probation appointments and license conditions
  • Support looking for a job, apprenticeship or volunteer placement
  • Support looking for private accommodati

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrate empathy, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with good listening skills
  • Input and maintain computer-based information systems in an accurate and timely manner
  • Exercise authority and reinforce boundaries in an appropriate manner
  • To work on own initiative and able to cope with stressful situations
