Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Volunteers have had a part to play in healthcare and have been an essential resource in the NHS since it began in 1948. They have made, and continue to make, a unique and valuable contribution to the experience of patients, visitors and staff.

The post holder will support the Volunteer Services Manager (VSM) in positively and effectively delivering a quality Volunteer Service at Medway NHS Foundation Trust to volunteers, patients, carers and staff. The post holder will support development and day to day running of the Volunteer Service as directed.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English
  • NVQ L2 or equivalent work experience in related subject, eg. customer service, business administration or similar

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • An understanding of the benefits of volunteers in healthcare settings
  • An understanding of supporting frail and/or vulnerable patients, including an understanding of dementia and delirium

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Dealing with the public / customer service experience
  • Ideally some experience of supporting volunteers
  • Ideally some experience of working in health, social care or the voluntary sector

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with a friendly and approachable manner
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to produce documents and reports to a good standard
  • Ability to prioritise workload in order to meet conflicting demands and deadlines
