Main Purpose of Job:
Be part of the Department for Business and Trade's (DBT) mission to drive more trade and investment between North America and the UK. Based at the British Consulate-General New York, the Trade & Investment Officer supports the Regional Director, East (40%) by managing projects, including team building activities, team coordination and initiatives that will increase engagement and promote a positive, inclusive work environment. The role will also lead on the coordination of the Great British Business Club (GBBC) (40%) and will assist in delivering cross-sector trade and investment projects/events and support with the delivery of impactful commercial programmes for senior level visitors (20%). You will be part of the North America team while working closely with colleagues based around the UK. This is a fascinating and engaging role allowing someone interested in international affairs and business development to work in an exciting diplomatic mission.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support Regional Director with running of local trade and investment team by providing operational and administrative support including arranging travel, managing schedules, report writing, maintaining client and project databases, and assisting with budget management and procurement for the New York team.
- Act as team lead and central coordinator for the GREAT British Business Club - planning and running a quarterly events series for British businesses based in New York, managing outreach to that community, on-boarding new members, maintaining a membership directory, running the mentorship programme, and performing other ad hoc tasks associated with the efficient running of the network.
- Support high-profile visits, including UK Ministerial and VIP delegations, including by scheduling high-level meetings, organising activities, and preparing briefing materials.
- Build and maintain a wide range of contacts within federal/state and private/research organizations for the benefit of the team.
- Support wider team initiatives as requested by the Regional Director and represent the Consulate and/or DBT at networking events.
- Provide project management support for initiatives to advance UK trade policy and economic development objectives, including networking receptions, seminars, trade missions and participation at trade shows, and long-term partnerships with industry associations and local/regional governments.
- Undertake market research, prepare/proof read briefings, draft reports and ad hoc presentations to support Regional Director with account management of a portfolio of key trade and investment accounts.
- Support Regional Director with recruitment, on-boarding and learning and development of new and current team members.
- Undertake occasional travel in both North America and the UK.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience/skills in a business, project and/or event management or similar coordination role.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a professional and helpful manner.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to undertake topical research.
- Ability to use a variety of online and social media tools.
- Must be able to attend events outside of office hours and undertake travel within the North America and the UK.
