About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic individual to manage our Power and Renewable portfolio within our London Energy team. In this pivotal role, you will take charge of delivering plans across a variety of sectors, including traditional power generation as well as renewable energy sources such as Solar, Wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Hydrogen.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing the development and execution of strategies within the Power and Renewables sector, with a global perspective written through our London Wholesale channel.

• Leading and managing a talented team, fostering a collaborative environment, and driving the LSM brand forward.

• Building and nurturing strong relationships with brokers and clients to expand our portfolio and support our business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning

• Support the development of the annual business plan for the Underwriting division and ensure delivery of the plan in accordance with its stated risk tolerances

• Ensure the team's awareness of the business plan and its context so that they are able to take appropriate action and make informed decisions

• Leading and providing the strategic input into Energy product development and Energy marketing plans.

• Contribute and participate in all meetings in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice

• Monitor adherence to the agreed Underwriting Division Business Plan, including benchmark pricing, premium income monitoring, credit control, exception reporting and monitoring of Lloyd's Realistic Disaster Scenarios

• Contribute new ideas and concepts to support the development and delivery of the business plan

• Works with the integrated business unit (e.g. Claims, Actuarial, Finance, Portfolio Management etc.) to achieve objectives

Delivery

• Deliver the Energy London business plan and objectives

• Establish and promote strong relationships with brokers, industry bodies, business partners, reinsurers and colleagues, to maximise influence and achieve business objectives

• Represent Liberty's interests with internal and external groups, and through participation in industry forums and corporate activity to safeguard or enhance Liberty's market position.

• Represents line of business internally, including to GRS and LM Group

• Proactively shares technical line of business knowledge and best practice with colleagues across the globe who underwrite for the same line of business

• With the Head of Energy continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through appropriate development initiatives

• Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through appropriate development initiatives

• Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and personal authority to meet business objectives, including; (i) Negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business (ii) Compliance with the production and issue of documentation in accordance with contract certainty requirements

• Contribute and influence in the review and analysis of the portfolio, to identify new business development opportunities including across different classes of business

• Ensure entries are properly recorded onto relevant systems in a timely manner whilst ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregate exposures

Policy, Process and Procedures

• Compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance

• Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and best practice methodology in order to minimise risk

• Comply with any reinsurance requirements in accordance with stated risk tolerances and to deliver against business plan

• Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. LSM expects you to understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and to proactively demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviours at all times. These requirements include Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing.

People Management

• Provide direction and support to direct reports ensuring that individuals are aligned to business objectives.

• Establish a referral structure for risk enquiries in the Power and Renewable London team, flowing to the Head of Energy and ensure it is appropriately controlled and monitored.

• Through the Energy London management structure manage resources across the London team to ensure business requirements are achieved and interaction with supporting risk insight is maintained.

• Work with the Integrated Business Unit, Head of Energy and other Energy Underwriting Managers including risk engineering, claims, finance, actuarial and business development, exposure management to provide direction and support within the team, ensuring that individuals are aligned to business objectives.

• Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviours and management best practice

• Manage performance of direct reports in accordance with the company's performance process

Skills and Experience:

• Extensive experience working in the Energy Insurance sector and comprehensive knowledge of Energy and Power Customers.

• Experience within both Power and Renewable market sectors

• Advanced knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements

• Highly numerate with an analytical and enquiring mind set, ability to develop a range of options and communicate these in an engaging and compelling way at the appropriate level for senior stakeholders

• Well-rounded interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to analyse and use data for decision making

• Comprehensive negotiation skills

• Methodical approach with attention to detail ensuring that insightful solutions are developed in a timely manner

• Proven ability making risk-based decisions under time constraints

• Comprehensive experience in people management skills including ability to across the business both within the Energy team and broader stakeholders

• Self-starter with a track record of challenging the status quo and identifying opportunities for process improvement and capacity creation

• Creative/innovative approach to solving complex problems of both a strategic and technical nature

• Effective and constructive team player; willingness to share proactively experience and knowledge within the team

• Understanding of relevant software including Excel

• Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models

• Desirable - Degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematical discipline, relevant professional accreditation and/or evidence of continuing professional development
