Underwriting Team Manager - Financial Lines

Role DescriptionOur Financial Lines continues to profitably grow at pace and we're seeking an Underwriting Team Manager to join the team on our journey. The purpose of this role is to contribute towards delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through the leading of a remote team of Fnancial Lines underwriting experts and operational oversight for the Financial Lines Centre of Excellence. .This position will be based in Bristol, Maidstone or Manchester, and involves some travel between the 3 offices, on a hybrid working model (typically minimum 3 days a week in the office or with brokers).

Role Details:

  • Manages, motivates and develops team to achieve individual, team and departmental targets.
  • Actively plans and manages the resource and workloads to achieve set targets and service levels, recruiting where necessary.
  • Produces and analyses regular management information to focus on improving.
  • Resolves escalated complaints and technical referrals from the team.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant regulatory bodies and that service is delivered in accordance with agreed SLAs.
  • Identifies and understands the needs of brokers and manages relationships with brokers and other key stakeholders.
  • Plays a key role in the wider leadership team, identifying process improvements and methods to increase staff engagement, efficiency and productivity.

About YouKey Accountabilities:

  • Monitors the performance of accounts and lines of business within Financial Lines, identifying under and over performance, implementing remedial and opportunity actions as appropriate.
  • Delivers KPI targets across complex cases/portfolios worked upon to deliver the high level line of business strategies and understands Account Management principles and the impact of portfolio changes or individual cases on the account.
  • Adheres to Underwriting Authority and understands the impact portfolio or case decisions have on Profit and Loss and the achievement of plan.
  • Makes important Commercial business decisions when they are required to support profitable development of supplier relationships, supporting the distribution segmentation strategy and delivery of plan. Provides support to stakeholders on business development activities.
  • Undertakes and reports on Underwriting Inspections (where required), account control and quality review programmes.
  • Produces Technical training material and is experienced in training, mentoring and coaching. In conjunction with Subject Matter Experts, organises and leads Technical training. Participates in assessment, design and delivering of technical training as required.
  • Liaises with all other appropriate internal parties including Sales and Distribution, Pricing, Claims and Operations and represents Allianz at internal and external forums.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply leadership and people management strategies to drive engagement and performance.
  • Working knowledge of Employment Law.
  • Knowledge of setting clear targets, focussing on priorities, regularly reviewing actual performance to agreed SLAs and adjusting where required.
  • Knowledge of product/process, leads a team to deliver and possesses knowledge at an industry and regulatory level to positively affect the customer and the organisation.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills in order to get things done and encourage the team to be open and willing to change.
  • Knowledge of ability to build skills and talent. Maintaining a strong technical focus through training and appropriate qualifications together with coaching team members to improve their current performance.
  • A working and up-to-date knowledge of the relevant regulatory policies, framework and procedures.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word and experienced to a base level of Excel.
  • Ability to interpret statistical data, including identification of trends, influences and anomalies on a case-by-case and local account basis.

Experience:

  • Experience of team leadership and delivering high levels of performance through others.
  • Experience of providing a consistently high level of service to internal and external customers.
  • Experience in producing business cases and implementing agreed actions.
  • Ability to drive improvement.
  • Comfortable working with multiple project plans and stakeholders.
  • Has the ability to set up and monitor frameworks and associated action plans.
