UK Public Policy Manager

Description

The UK Public Policy team works with a wide range of local, national, and supra-national policymakers, industry and non-governmental organisations, across policy issues in retail, consumer affairs, data and digital technology, media and the creative industries, economic development, sustainability, customer trust, transport and logistics.

We are looking for a highly-motivated, strategic, and detail-oriented individual to join our diverse and dynamic team. The role is based in our UK, London office. You will report to the team's Head of Public Affairs.

Key job responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced public affairs and policy professional who is passionate about the intersection between technology, policy and politics, can navigate highly ambiguous environments with strong business judgement, work thoughtfully across global teams and time zones, and demonstrate enthusiasm and curiosity to learn and grow. The individual should be a self-starter, highly organized and able to communicate, adapt, and/or respond effectively and efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude and sense of humour, even under pressure, in a fast-paced, goal-focused work environment.

This role is integral in helping the UK Public Policy team's advocacy campaigns and communication strategies, building Amazon's profile, political reputation and policy impact. You will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with government officials, parliamentarians, regional governments, industry associations, and other stakeholders to advocate for Amazon's interests. You will monitor political and legislative developments, work with colleagues to understand their impact on the company, and develop strategies to address potential challenges and opportunities.

The role will suit an individual capable of delivering across the spectrum of public policy activity, from external public affairs engagement and campaigning, to policy design, writing, research and analysis. You will represent Amazon in trade associations and external forums, and promote our activity across our skills and employability programmes. You will also manage specific policy projects (e.g., consultation responses or externally commissioned research), and own or support the production of relevant policy content for high level external engagement and internal briefings, as well as events and offsites.

Basic Qualifications

- Relevant years of experience in public policy, public affairs, government relations, or regulatory affairs, with a focus on economic, consumer, or digital policy;
- Strong understanding of UK politics, legislative and regulatory processes;
- Demonstrated experience engaging with policymakers and trade associations on complex policy issues;
- Ability to analyse and communicate the implications of political and policy developments for business models and operations;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience producing high-quality policy briefings and consultation responses;
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to operate credibly with a wide range of stakeholders;

- Strong program management and organizational skills
- Experience working at high level and collaboratively in a highly-matrixed environment, alongside teams including Legal, PR, and business teams
