Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main duties are to provide middle grade cover to a busy care of elderly ward, to help support / teach junior doctors, help lead the MDT and support the consultant in their ward round.
To liaise with MDT staff and perform family meetings and updates.

Education and qualifications:
Essential criteria
- Eligible for GMC registration to cover the scope of employment
- Satisfactory completion of FH01 and FH02 (or equivalent certified evidence of competence) at the time of taking up post
- MRCP Part 1 + 2
Desirable criteria
- Distinctions, Scholarships, prizes FRCS/MRCP PACES other Degrees eg. BSc. Masters, PhD (or equivalent)
Knowledge:
Essential criteria
- Keeps professional knowledge and skills up to date
- Potential to benefit from the training available ie fits with career aspirations
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition
- Understands the purpose and process of basic professional training
Experience:
Essential criteria
- Competent in basic procedures (which may be post specific) eg CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc

- Understands current clinical issues in specialty
- Aware of own limitations and knows when to ask for help from senior colleagues
- Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
- Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge or UK health systems and practices including the relationship between primary and secondary care and inter-professional relationships
- Knowledge of current issues in the NHS
- Computer literate
- Understands the importance and impact of information systems in health care
- Has participated in clinical audit
