Role Summary

Join the Financial Markets Department to help design and implement ALM strategy across EMEA for the Banking Group. Build out of detailed analysis to influence senior stakeholder on the balance sheet strategy.

Support the enhancement of the Asset & Liability management operation within the Banking group.

Build out of analysis and insight to direct future balance sheet strategy.

Maintain an overview of financial market movements and relevant news, ensure a swift and concise update to appropriate stakeholders is provided.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • To manage SMBC BI's assets and liabilities in a prudent manner.
  • To manage corporate loans that need funding and inter-bank/inter-office lending by identifying and managing funding needs in local currency/foreign currency and implementing optimal funding strategies.
  • Advise other branches/offices in EMEA on liquidity metrics and balance sheet strategy.
  • Ensure optimal utilisations of excess funds by placement/investment with financial institutions as per approvals and guidelines of management.
  • To respond to changes in the economic climate, updating other group members and adjusting banking cash positions established from customer transactions (no proprietary/speculative positions are otherwise taken) to hedge against risk and maximise profits.
  • To comply with all regulatory and internal policies and procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Identify training and development requirements relevant to the proper performance of the role and ensure they are adequately skilled to undertake the business requirements of the Bank.
  • To report to GM daily on the progress of Banking Group, in particular to report daily on P/L, positions and to discuss performance and strategy.
  • To give advice and recommend strategies for balance sheet optimisation.
  • To provide support to the Customer Sales Group within Financial Markets Department.
  • Appropriate judgement and action against market risks and liquidity risks.
  • To prepare the strategy, business plan and basic policy of its management in FMD.
  • To create the medium to long-term business structure of FMD.
  • To organise an efficient treasury business operation within FMD, and further ensure its improvement.
  • To implement measures to strengthen business transactions of FMD.
  • To plan new business and products of FMD.
  • To handle external inspections/audits in FMD.
  • To handle the accounting matters of FMD.
  • To contribute to the design of the rules for determining the internal rate of FMD and conferring with other relevant Departments.
  • Ensuring that the requirements of the New Product and Service Procedures are followed for any actual, or potential, new products and services.
  • To engage in the activities stipulated in the Service Level Agreements as per the discretion of the line manager.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Qualifications

Educated to degree level.

A level or equivalent.

Experience & Knowledge
• Strong understanding of Asset & Liability management.
• Strong knowledge of Liquidity management and regulatory metrics.
• Strong knowledge of Funds Transfer pricing.
• Experience of balance sheet management.
• Ability to influence stakeholders at various levels.
• Able to manipulate large data sets with proficiency in Excel VBA and Python preferred.
