Planning Manager - RORO Operations

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Planning Manager to oversee daily operations for our Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) fleet. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of vehicles while maintaining excellent service standards for both customers and drivers.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. This role is office based.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and optimise daily HGV schedules for RORO fleet operations
  • Act as the main point of contact for customer communication, providing updates, resolving issues, and advising on estimated arrival times
  • Collaborate with procurement, site operations, transport teams, and customers to ensure seamless coordination
  • Monitor live operations and respond promptly to any incidents such as breakdowns or delays
  • Ensure full compliance with all transport regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate operational data for performance monitoring and reporting
  • Adapt swiftly to changing circumstances and remain effective in a dynamic work environment

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Previous experience managing a team of drivers and operating at a similar level.
  • Excellent UK geographical knowledge (especially HGV-access routes and restrictions)
  • Strong communication skills - able to build rapport with drivers and customers alike
  • Composed, proactive, and adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Genuine interest in logistics, sustainability, and the transport sector
  • A methodical, logical mindset and good attention to detail
  • Experience in waste transport, logistics planning and RoRo skip operations.
  • Familiarity with the Working Time Directive and EU Drivers' Hours rules
  • Hands-on knowledge of planning using telematics systems
  • Transport manager CPC
