Overview
The Transport Operations Support Manager will provide hands-on leadership and operational support across all areas of our transport network. This role demands an experienced logistics professional capable of stepping into multiple functions delivering consistent performance. The successful candidate must be adaptable, resilient, and prepared to travel or work away from home for extended periods.
How will you contribute?
- Oversee daily transport activities, which could include team management, route planning, resource scheduling and legal compliance
- Step into operational roles as needed across the business
- Support local teams with operational requirements, implementing best practices and ensuring successful delivery of our customer requirements
- Monitor and enforce transport compliance with legal, safety, and company standards
- Lead investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders to ensure service levels
- Understand, monitor and analyse key performance metrics and recommend changes to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with site teams to implement streamlined workflows and standard operating procedures
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction across transport operations, including route optimisation and resource utilisation
- Provide clear and actionable guidance to support operational decision-making
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on operational support across multiple functions, stepping into transport-based roles where required
- Ensure transport compliance with all relevant legal, safety, and company standards, conducting audits and implementing corrective actions where necessary
- Support local site teams by implementing best practices, resolving operational challenges, and ensuring consistent delivery of customer requirements
- Conduct investigations and root-cause analysis following incidents or service failures, driving continuous improvement through corrective and preventive measures
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to uphold service levels and foster collaboration
- Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows, standardise operating procedures, and enhance overall operational effectiveness
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives, including route optimisation, resource utilisation, and process improvements
- Provide clear, actionable guidance to support operational decision-making and ensure alignment with strategic transport objectives
- Demonstrate flexibility and resilience, including willingness to travel or work away from home to maintain service continuity and support business need
What will you bring?
- Extensive knowledge of the transport sector, including regulatory compliance
- Over five years of diverse experience across multiple transport functions
- Proven success in leading organisational change initiatives
- Holds or is working towards CPC and IOSH certifications
- Skilled in fostering collaborative, high-performing team environments
- Experienced in making high-stakes decisions under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to reduce costs and enhance KPI outcomes
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
