We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Manager to join our team in the Birmingham depot. Reporting to the Regional Director your main duties will be To ensure complete legal and safety compliance and high availability of the HGV delivery fleet. Management of the LGV driver workforce including safety, training, recruitment, retention and performance.

Responsibilities include:

• Daily line management of lead drivers and drivers, coaching, motivating and leading the team.
• Recruitment of new drivers whilst future resource planning, highlighting any concerns of escalation review.
• Ensure all drivers are correctly trained, qualified and have familiarisation for their role.
• Ensure compliance with all road transport legislative requirements and all internal quality, health, safety and environmental policies and standards.
• Assist in managing the undertakings of the region in line with the Office of the Traffic Commissioner requirements on a restricted operators licence.
• Drive a high degree of vehicle availability, minimising vehicle off the road downtime, to ensure that core assets are available by actively managing any vehicles off road.
• Download tachograph heads in each vehicle listed on the operator's licence for the specific depot (as required).
• Ensure that each driver within the depot downloads their digital tachograph card at least once per week.
• Provide a first point of escalation for all drivers in the region for all enquiries.
• First point of escalation for transport planners in relation to driver issues.
• Conduct gate checks, remote observation checks spot checks on compliance and spot checks on PPE, securing equipment, etc.
• Conduct briefings with drivers including, but not specifically limited to, tool box talks, safety alerts, driver league performance.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

• Able to lead by example with a proven track record of managing drivers in a multi-site environment.
• Proficient in the use of the PDA and associated Apps, with the ability to show and train other drivers in the use of the App.
• Proficient is the use of Microsoft packages.
• Experience of working in a transport environment.
• Knowledge of transport law and the obligations of NWPs undertakings to the office of the traffic commissioner.
• Ideally Management CPC qualified.
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Must have a current, full UK driving license.
