Job Description

Join us as our Transport Backhaul Manager, to support Group Transport activity by increasing vehicle earnings, developing the network, reducing empty legs and increasing internalised revenue. You'll be working closely with our planning teams to ensure the most efficient route to market is being planned.

This function is moving from its current headquarters in Derby to a new be-spoke control tower in Nottingham. This follows on from the launch of our Ortec TMS and recent purchase of the EyeQ digital platform to support our continued growth and this is a great opportunity for you to source backhaul opportunities whilst utilising our new tech Ortec, EyeQ to support with Wincanton network and new business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the empty leg report to increase fleet efficiency and develop strategic external backhaul opportunities.
• Review subcontract and tradeable work to identify core fleet opportunity.
• Support with the development of EyeQ and the digital market place.
• Attend daily and weekly internal calls representing Group Transport and manage internal collaboration calls.
• Grow strategic partners with a view to gaining visibility of external work banks.
• Manage internal subcontract performance, availability and opportunity, increasing backhaul across the network.
• Support with pricing and modelling of new business.
• Work with the GM Planning and planning managers to increase internal collaboration.
• Review fleet sizes and regional opportunities.
• Build relationships & become key point of contact for retail closed book customers.
• Work with Transport Operation/ Planning managers to resource peak planning demands.
• Support with 4PL growth, haulier management and opportunity.

  Note: Regular national travel with flexibility to stay away from home when required. (Full UK Driving Licence and ability to travel - minimum 30% travel required).

What will you bring to our team?

• Passion for fleet efficiency and reduced empty running and experienced in increased backhaul.
• CPC and knowledge of current transport legislation.
• Experience as a TM User Ortec or Paragon, with knowledge in routing/optimisation.
• Understanding of haulage costs, market knowledge and key unit cost drivers to maximise profitability.
• Logical thinking, problem solver with an eye to seek out opportunities.
• Drive and focus for growing our EyeQ Marketplace.
• Results driven and focused on internalised revenue and retail closed book profitability.
• Strategic focused on driving engagement, opportunity and customer growth.
