Job Purpose

Reporting to the Portfolio Lead, this role has responsibility for overseeing and managing the activities of a TMO/PMO within the organisation. They provide guidance and support to project managers/programme leads, ensuring projects have the right artefacts and governance to deliver, on time, and within budget.

The TMO Manager establishes and maintains project management standards, processes, and methods. They also monitor progress of projects via project reporting.

Overall, the TMO Manager plays a crucial role in driving project excellence and delivery standards.

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

Governance, reporting, standards

  • Build, improve and ensure consistency of programme management framework - objectives, outcomes, milestones, RAG status, risks, dependencies, costs, benefits, KPIs
  • Review the monthly portfolio status reports, and meeting packs for the project and programme leads. Ensure they are populated correctly for the monthly cadence
  • Document and share actions from BTO Monthly Portfolio Governance meetings and follow up with respective action owners to ensure actions are completed on time
  • Support Programme Leads in resource allocation and capacity planning
  • Schedule all TMO governance meetings for the portfolio
  • Manage purchase orders, time sheets, invoices

Programmes / Projects

  • Provide guidance and support to programme / project teams in the execution of projects
  • Support Portfolio Managers in project assessments / reviews
  • Support Finance in benefit management

People

  • Provide training to project managers and new joiners on TMO governance
  • Ensure correct attendees at TMO governance meetings, document actions and decisions

Skills & Experience

Work Based

  • Extensive experience as a TMO Manager
  • Exposure of establishing and maintaining project management standards, processes and methods
  • Deep knowledge and experience of Microsoft packages - Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-organised with a great eye for detail
  • Skill at managing stakeholder groups and balancing diplomacy and tact with assertiveness
  • Very good prioritisation skills to balance key priorities
  • A strong internal customer centric approach
