Description

The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in UK's & Ireland's Building Services sector. Alternative Heat design, develop and deliver a wide range of offsite-prefabricated, innovative, and sustainable building service solutions throughout the UK & Europe.

We specialise in the design, supply, and installation of a wide range of prefabricated energy solutions, typically built in NI and shipped throughout the UK & Europe. We also offer turnkey design, build, and operate solutions for commercial energy centres and large-scale district heating solutions and have experience with successfully procuring and delivering many similar packages to a wide range of public bodies throughout UK & Europe.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Training and Development Manager to join our team, an essential role within the organisation, responsible for ensuring that the training developed aligns with the business goals and meets the needs of each function. This role requires working across various departments and with numerous stakeholders. The Training and Development Manager must possess leadership competencies such as integrity, project management, change management, and business acumen. Additionally, specific competencies are essential to successfully managing the training function.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department Needs:

  • Ensure strategic alignment of the training department with mandatory and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate individual and organisational performance to confirm training effectiveness and performance improvement.
  • Establish and maintain personal training development plans.
  • Ensure training presentations/toolbox talks are up-to-date, suitable, and training materials are available.
  • Oversee the development of new training content.
  • Approve training requests in line with company policy.
  • Assist the HSE team with the development and review of equipment Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversee induction procedures for new staff.
  • Establish and utilise training evaluation forms, reviewing and acting on feedback.
  • Maintain training records and provide regular management reports.

Human Resources (HR) Department Needs:

  • Organise and coordinate all developmental training.
  • Support the Head of HR in developing an annual training plan.
  • Research and identify suitable training programmes based on developmental needs.
  • Conduct evaluations of all training programmes.
  • Support the Head of HR in creating and delivering in-house development workshops.
  • Develop Training Needs Analyses (TNAs) for all job roles and implement a training catalogue to support employee progression and new start onboarding.
  • Track and report on training Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist the Head of HR in developing a structured company Placement, Graduate, and Apprentice Programme.
  • Support the Talent Acquisition team with university and college engagement.
  • Identify and coordinate government-funded development schemes that benefit the company.

Company-Wide Needs:

  • Identify training needs by consulting with stakeholders across departments and conducting needs assessments.
  • Develop and deliver training solutions that meet business needs, setting KPIs for pass rates and other metrics.
  • Optimise training processes for efficiency in terms of time and attendees.
  • Manage the technologies and technical personnel required to develop, manage, and deliver training.
  • Provide career development support, including conducting appraisals.
  • Manage the employee onboarding process.
  • Track training and development progress.
  • Assess the effectiveness of internal and external training programmes.
  • Select and manage resources, including working with internal employees and external training vendors to develop and deliver training.
  • Source and audit external training providers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage the training budget, reducing and reporting on aborted and missed course fees.
  • Establish means to reclaim costs via schemes such as the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • In-depth knowledge of learning and development best practices preferably within manufacturing and construction.
  • A proven track record in training programme development and management.
  • A strategic thinker and self-starter.
  • 5 years' experience in a training and development role, ideally in a construction or engineering environment.
  • 2 years' experience managing a training and development team.
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory rules and standards relative to the company
  • In depth understanding of learning and development best practices
  • A self-starter who embraces responsibility and can manage own time
  • Recognise and score compliance risk, adjusting the intensity of compliance monitoring as appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to build key relationships both internally and externally.
