Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To lead and manage the patient pathways within the Speciality business units (SBU) ensuring the best use of available resources to provide efficient and effective delivery of all services in line with best practice, quality standards and performance targets.

Work closely with clinical and operational colleagues to ensure efficient and effective management of theatres.

To develop a culture that encourages the use of initiative, individual and team responsibility and open communications.

To provide effective line management.

To effectively manage the Business Unit's budget and finance.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of operational management in NHS
  • Detailed understanding and experience of the operation of acute hospital services and performance targets
  • Experience of managing a budget.
  • Experience of successfull project management

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of operational management within Theatres, Anaesthetics and Pre Operative Assessment
  • Working knowledge of RTT and CWT

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Well-developed analytical & problem solving skills with the ability to make decisions by determining key points from complex data and multiple information strands.
  • IT literate with well-developed skills for the use and application of information technology systems including file management, safe and effective internet use, Outlook, Word processing,
  • Proven ability to achieve targets and objectives within a demanding and pressured environment against challenging deadlines.
  • Well-developed leadership and motivational skills to facilitate working within and leading a large team.
  • Ability to empower, coach and support staff. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills together with influencing and negotiating skills for interacting with individuals across the

Essential criteria

  • Diploma in NHS Management or equivalent operational experience
  • Appropriate professional management qualification
  • Participation in continuing professional development to improve and update specialist knowledge

If the role you've applied for requires a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check we will administer this on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment, or over 3 months. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered. Currently the charges are - Basic DBS check £22, Standard DBS check £22 and Enhanced DBS check £42. You should be aware that if you are successful in obtaining a position that requires a DBS check but later withdraw your application, you may be required to reimburse the cost of the DBS check.
