BAM UK&I are looking for a Senior Environmental Manager to work from our London office.

Your mission

As a Senior Environmental Manager your mission is to accelerate BAM's transition to a sustainable business. You will manage, lead, and coordinate a team of regional or project-based Advisors, Senior Advisors and/or Managers, supporting the implementation of BAM's sustainability strategy. Your expertise, coupled with strong stakeholder skills, will drive internal and external collaboration whilst maintaining a client-centric approach, in addition to overseeing the execution of environmental compliance to ISO14001 and being the go-to resource for specialist environmental sustainability advice when needed. You will report to the Environmental Sustainability Business Partner and may have a matrix relationship within the operational business.

Management Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
• Manage, set expectations, and monitor team goals and actions.
• Motivate the team towards a common ambition.
• Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
• Hold regular meetings with direct reports and meet periodically with other SESM's to
share progress and best practice.

Productivity and Delegation:
• Monitor team productivity, achieve required deadlines and ensure tasks add value.
• Delegate tasks effectively, empowering team members.

Effective Communication:
• Lead effective communication with internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
• Provide necessary reports, analysis, and forecasting.

Adaptability and Innovation:
• Embrace change and support innovative approaches.
• Rally operational teams to implement necessary changes.

Collaboration and stakeholder engagement:
• Collaborate with internal and external parties to enhance performance.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• Promote a cohesive UK&I approach by engaging with all senior managers and promoting better ways of working.
• Possess an awareness and understanding of the interdependencies of Environmental sustainability with other key themes and functions.

Who are we looking for?

Role Specific Requirements

Environmental Sustainability Expertise:
• Demonstrate a proven track record of delivering environmental improvements within the built environment and/or civil engineering sector and associated trades.
• Possess advanced knowledge of ISO14001 compliance and assurance, along with key environmental aspects.
• Lead management reviews, and ensure associated procedures and plans are continually improved.
• Have a good working knowledge of all the sustainability strategy themes and an expert knowledge of the pertinent aspects (decarbonisation, circular economy, climate adaptation, and biodiversity) specific to the role.

Standards and Reporting:
• Provide assurance to industry standards, company procedures, and legal requirements.
• Communicate identified risk and opportunities to team, relevant parts of the business and externally with key stakeholders.
• Understand sector-specific reporting standards and key performance indicators.
• Keep abreast of new guidance and standards and ensure this is adopted by the business.
• Meet regularly with the Business Partner to discuss issues and opportunities across area of responsibility.

Certification and Assessment:
• Good working knowledge and where required experience of delivering relevant environmental certification/assessment tools (e.g., BREEAM, LEED, WELL, NABERs).

Effective Communication:
• Translate complex technical information into clear direction for operational teams.
• Conduct awareness and training sessions across the value chain.
• Lead awareness of decarbonisation, circular economy, climate adaptation, and biodiversity.
• Be a confident presenter, familiar with visual packages to effectively convey key messages.
• Attend key operational meetings as required and lead discussions to improve performance.

Strategic Implementation:
• Identify Regional / Business Unit level trends and improvement opportunities.
• Escalate business change opportunities by taking leading roles in transformation and strategic projects.
• Develop action plans to achieve regional or segment goals.
• Understand data governance and analytics and how this can deliver meaningful KPIs.

Client Focus:
• Support work winning and project delivery.
• Act as a contact for PQQ and Tender support, supporting or delegating tasks to the wider team, Act as a critical reviewer to created content, and support library development in the winning work hub (WWH).
• Focus on delivering added value for our clients and confident in leading client sustainability strategies through design and construction.
• Support Customer account directors as required to position BAMUK&I as the preferred contractor of choice.
• Support supply chain partners to innovate and improve performance to continually improve our customer delivery.
• Engage with key client representatives on a peer to peer basis.
