Salary: £53,888 - £58,282 per annum | Permanent | | Full Time, 37 hours per week | Preston/Hybrid |

The Trading Standards Service has a key role in protecting residents and visitors from fraudulent and illegal practices, tackling rogue trading, and supporting honest businesses to grow and thrive. We are also part of the Council's Public Health directorate, playing an important role in improving the health of residents and visitors to the County.

Join our team as a Trading Services Manager

An exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced Trading Standards professional to join the Senior Management Team in the Trading Standards Service. You will use your expertise and knowledge to guide and direct a team of Principal Officers and operational teams primarily in the fields of Fair Trading, Special Investigations, Legal Process, and Financial Investigations. You will also contribute to the strategic direction of the Service as a whole, as part of the Service's Senior Management Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Pioneer: Lead the interpretation and communication of policies, legislation, and codes of practice, staying ahead of changes that impact our business.
  • Expert Advisor: Provide proactive, expert advice to meet the needs of internal and external customers, inform multi-agency initiatives, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Service Innovator: Evaluate and monitor service developments, recommending large-scale improvements to senior management.
  • Information Strategist: Review and enhance management information systems to meet planning and legal requirements.
  • Network Builder: Represent the Council at external forums, conferences, and meetings, building professional networks and influencing policy agendas.
  • Project Leader: Design and deliver impactful projects to resolve service issues and drive improvements, from initiation to objective setting.
  • Development Champion: Foster a culture of continuous professional development for all staff.

What We're Looking For:

  • Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent, including statutory qualifications for Weights and Measures and Food Standards enforcement.
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive experience in applying relevant legislation and current standards in Trading Standards.
  • Proven track record in developing and managing service delivery.
