Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree or above in Occupational Therapy or other allied health profession.
  • Up to date professional registration with HCPC.
  • Post registration training relevant to mental health.

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of post qualification CPD training.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working at a senior level within an allied health profession.
  • Post qualification experience of working within an inpatient/secure mental health setting.
  • Experience of working with people with complex needs.
  • Carry out high quality and culturally sensitive assessment and treatment process skills.
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Experience of managing complex personnel issues such as sickness absence, presenting at hearings and poor performance management.
  • Experience of staff recruitment
  • Experience of financial management

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working as a manager or team leader, including the management of people working in other disciplines other than own background.
  • Experience of working within complex systems
  • Experience of developing & delivering staff training (to multi-disciplinary colleagues)
  • Experience in research and audit
  • Experience of service development
  • Experience of formally appraising others
  • Experience of providing line management to staff

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Specialist knowledge and application of evidence-based assessment and interventions relevant to mental health.
  • Knowledge of evidence based clinical models utilised in mental health and their application in practice
  • Knowledge of legislation, statutory and good practice guidance relating to mental health ((including the National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines, the Mental Health Act, the Care Programme Approach, and the Mental Capacity Act).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates positive pro-active and effective leadership and management skills to an integrated multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to effectively manage and adapt to change to contributed to the development of the service.
  • Ability to promote and positively represent the allied health professional workforce.

Desirable criteria

  • Specialist knowledge of trauma informed care, attachment & the relevance of this to the role.
  • Specialist knowledge of the assessment & management of risk in the inpatient setting.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues

  • Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities in a demanding environment.
  • Presentation and training skills.
  • Contribute to the development and application of local health safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to represent AHPs at senior service level. Ability to take the lead in the planning, development and evaluation of own service area.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Applying the principles of Recovery and the promoting service user and carer involvement.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including the processing of complex and sensitive information
  • Ability to manage own workload, determine priorities and proactively respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
  • Application of Health, Safety and Security Principles.

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrates the ability to deputise for senior staff.

Essential criteria

  • The postholder must be assessed by Occupational Health as having a level of physical fitness required to undertake the role and required essential training.
  • Registration with HCPC
