Job overview

About the role:

We are looking for 2 enthusiastic Receptionist staff to undertake responsibility for maintaining the security of the reception area. You will act as the first point of contact for visitors and liaison with the unit teams.

The shift patterns include weekend work.

About the team:

The reception team consists the Therapeutic Security Team, including the Head of Reception and a number of receptionists on the rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to ensure that the maintenance and monitoring procedures are implemented for the physical security components of the service.

The post holder will contribute to the dissemination and review of security procedures.

Electronically carry out regular checks of security keys ensuring that all checks are recorded and discrepancies are reported

Provide information and advice to a range of professionals with different needs - ward staff, patients, professional visitors, carers and contractors.

Conduct physical searches of personnel and belongings prior to entering the ward - visitors, carers, patients and contractors.

The post holder will assist with the co-ordination of actions in the event of a fire or similar emergency situation.

The post holder will ensure the perimeter of the unit is safe and secure by performing frequent perimeter checks on a daily basis.

Escorting patients returning from section 17 leave back to the ward when required

To support staff in their use of the key management system. Assist staff in the event of problems by making use of the Traka technical support line. Ensure that the key management system is operated in accordance with the River House Key Management Protocol including producing regular key checks and Ascom handset audits.

Post Holders may be asked to provide driving services for the Forensic Service, if needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ensure all staff are inducted and trained in the use of the key management system, Ascom and buddi security devices and to ensure an effective and secure front of house service is offered across the secure reception desks within the Forensic Services.

Assist with the induction & training programme for new staff. This includes supporting patients leaving and entering the building, Family& carer and official visitors.

To assist in the recruitment, both in the short-listing process and interviewing for the band 2 security support staff

To be responsible for the arrangement of mandatory training of the band 2 security support staff

To hold 1 2 1 supervision sessions on a monthly basis with the security support staff.

To assist with any management issues regarding band 2 security support staff performance in line with Trust's Disciplinary Policy

To ensure that all information is kept up to date and maintained in good order.

To ensure that all Security equipment in used are maintained in good order.

Ensure that all Therapeutic security teams carry out a clear and precise handover at the end of each shift and documented all events as appropriate.

Ensure that all patients returning from leave go through a thorough security screening and are escorted back to the ward. Also to demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities in relation to patient's property and valuables, respecting cultural believe and values.

Ensure all Carers/relatives/visitors go through the Proscreen 200 metal detector screening in the Reception waiting area before proceeding onto the unit.

Record, report and take action on all breaches of security, update and evaluate all existing security systems on a regular basis

Ensure that access to the unit is given only to authorise staff registered on the Traka key management system and approved visitors and to ensure the prevention of unauthorised persons gaining access to the secure unit.

Assist in the training of staff as required, specifically in relation to:

  • Ligature
  • Section 17 training
  • MSU/ LSU Search and security training - SEE,THINK,ACT DH (2015)

Have an excellent knowledge on how to use the charter box radio communication equipment, Ascom and wall panic alarm system and search equipment's and will be able to assist others with their use.

Report all incidents relating to patient searches security issues using Trust policy, local procedure and directly to the security management team.

Liaise where appropriate with other wards/clinical teams in the Trust under the direction of the security management team.

Carry out environmental checks of the unit as scheduled.

Support room searches with the ward staff and on behalf of the security team.

Assist the ward in setting up patient buddi profile and room bookings during out of hours.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to GCSE A Level/NVQ/ Certificate Level II/III

Desirable criteria

  • Degree level

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to understand and carry out assigned tasks and instructions.
  • Able to train / induct staff at all grades/disciplines.
  • Understanding of and ability to undertake audits.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of key management system software.
  • Knowledge of Buddi tracking system software
  • Knowledge of security procedures
  • Knowledge of performing searches

Essential criteria

  • Effective communication and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to recognise inappropriate behaviour and set/maintain boundaries.
  • Able to participate in teaching for staff as required and the direct supervision.
