Job description

The Iconic Thames Barrier & Associated Gates (TBAG) play a pivotal role in protecting over £321 billion worth of property and 1.42M people from tidal flooding in London.

We are seeking a new Manager to head up our operations ahead of the retirement of the current Manager. This will allow for a transition period where you will be given all the training and guidance needed to be successful.

This exciting role is all about ensuring that TBAG is fully reliable and resilient at all times maintaining 24/7 operations with the support of your 80+ on site team. You will be a key player and pivotal to the success of the adaptive Thames Estuary 2100 strategy and associated Asset Management Strategy. You will be a member of the Area Leadership Team bringing collaborative, visible, strategic and cohesive leadership to the wider area.

You will not be surprised that this high-profile role calls for a very special person. You will have extensive experience of managing major infrastructure with good understanding of lifecycle asset management and planning with a focus on reliability and maintenance excellence. You will be forward looking in your approach offering exceptional leadership to your team and beyond. You may also have a professional qualification in engineering and / or asset management.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

You will be the Asset Owner for our Thames Tidal Defences. Along with your teams and the Engineering Manager, you will have responsibility for strategic planning, asset information management, reliability and safety assurance, maintenance and operation of these assets.

As part of our Area Leadership Team, you will provide forward thinking and strategic direction and work with others across the wider business to influence and shape wider organisation design, systems and ways of working.

Experience/skills required

• Experience in managing major infrastructure and understanding of lifecycle asset management along with strategic planning is essential

A full UK Driving Licence will be required to travel between offices and venues in the area.

Due to enhanced security clearance required, applicants will need to have been a UK for resident for at least 5 years
