Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to the Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 - 2030, and AMP 9 (2030 - 2035). Our scope is to provide project management, design, construction and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout the North West and Cumbria region covered by United Utilities. Projects vary in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners

The Temporary Works Manager must have a proven track record acting as a TWC on large scale civil engineering projects. Knowledge and experience are the key attributes for the role along with strong interpersonal organisational team working skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Reporting to the Project Manager you will be expected to manage a small team and coordinate with permanent works design managers. You will be required to ensure that all Temporary Works are adequately and safely designed, constructed, implemented and removed in accordance with Project Procedures and industry standards.

You will be Chartered Civil Engineer (or working towards) , CSCS Card holder, CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course (preferred), and completed SMSTS (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the implementation of Costain Temporary Works (TW) procedures
  • Lead the Temporary Works Coordinators in the practical aspects of Temporary Works management on sites
  • Liaise with the UU Partner DI's
  • Liaise with the Electrical Lead and Mechanical Lead for TW issues on sites
  • Manage the Costain/UU combined Temporary Works Register
  • Maintain register of competent TWC's and TWS's through liaison with the Partner DI's
  • Coordinate TW design with TW Designers and Checkers
  • Lead on the development of Temporary Works standards solutions
  • Manage the Technical Risk Management Plan

Qualifications

Essential

  • Civil engineering qualification and practical delivery experience
  • Can work independently to deliver industry best practice for Temporary Works.
  • Can demonstrate experience of being part of large-scale infrastructure programmes of work.
  • Can unify teams to achieve safe, consistent and appropriate TW solutions
  • Good organisational skills
  • Effective communication and strong stakeholder management skills
  • Passionate about improving performance in the sector through best practice, process improvements and continuous improvement practices
  • Previous experience of management on complex / sensitive programmes
  • Practical experience working with NEC 4 contracts
  • A positive and proactive attitude
  • SMSTS
  • CSCS
  • Driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience of water industry working
  • Chartered Engineer of a relevant institution
