About The Role

Want to use your interpersonal skills over the telephone to provide vital support and services information to people affected by dementia?

As a Telephone Support Volunteer you will help people living with dementia, affected by dementia or people that are worried about their memory connect to support and services that are available to them. You will provide a service that is tailored to a person's needs, interests, abilities, history and personality. You will be a key point of contact for people using our services, ensuring that we keep in touch with people at a time when they need our support.

We are delighted to be looking for a volunteer to join the Flexible Response Team to support with Keeping In Touch calls. This role will be home based, but there will be support from the Flexible Response Team, who are all remote workers.

The Flexible Response team provides support nationally to teams who are experiencing short term gaps in delivering services to people affected by dementia.

We are looking for a volunteer who can contact people by affected by dementia to check how things they are getting on and identifying if they need further support.

The successful volunteer will need to feel confident in contacting people, being friendly and listening with curiosity to what is happening. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to support people affected by dementia directly.

As we support all teams across England, Wales and Northern Ireland there will be the opportunity to work across all three nations, and the successful volunteer will need to be happy to change areas, depending where there is a need for support from the Flexible Response Telephone Volunteer.

We are looking for a minimum of 7 hours a week, but days and times can be discussed, and full training in the role will be provided.

This role will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal Records Check from either the Disclosure and Barring Service (England & Wales), Disclosure Scotland Check (Scotland) or AccessNI (Northern Ireland). You'll be great for the role if you:

  • You want to enable people using our service access the right support.
  • You have good verbal communication and listening skills, particularly on the telephone.
  • You are perceptive and able to demonstrate empathy with others.
  • You are flexible, willing to learn and enjoy being part of a team.
  • You are over the age of 18
