Position Concept

  • This key position and challenging role of the Data Centre Technical Manager reports directly to the CBRE DCS Account Manager, the role is integral in supporting 100% uptime for Client and their customers.
  • As the post holder, you will be expected to have expertise in working within mission critical facilities such as complex Tier 3 or above Data Centres.
  • A definitive understanding of building services systems, contingency procedures and be proactive in passing on this knowledge through development of the engineering team.
  • The Data Centre Technical Manager will also be expected to become familiar with aspects of the CBRE CERMTM process and Client CEM Risk Management Framework and all engineering operations within the Client London contract.
  • Working closely with the Engineering team the Data Centre Technical Manager role will be the technical lead for all day-to-day maintenance activities, including the Specialist Subcontractors, Suppliers and other support teams.
  • The Data Centre Technical Manager will be appointed as the site SAP for HV Electrical Systems and work in partnership with Client Technical Services Manager ensuring the required standards are exceeded when operating critical infrastructure.
  • To ensure the highest engineering standards are achieved and maintained at all times by both 3rd party specialist and engineering staff alike.
  • To oversee competencies of 3rd party specialist and engineering staff, train, coach and mentor the engineering team to ensure maximum critical infrastructure uptime.
  • Act as a champion for health and safety on the account and work with the local team, our vendors, and our client to maintain the highest standards.

Key Tasks

  • Ensure compliance with CBRE CERMTM procedures and Client CEM Risk Management Framework, through the effective management of SOP, MOP and EOP.
  • Operate all systems within the buildings in a competent, effective and efficient manner (including HV isolations/operations).
  • Having due regard to business risk and energy use.
  • Making recommendations for improvement and providing concise technical reports when required.
  • Appointment as Senior Authorised Person for the Data Centre, taking ownership of CBRE HV Authorised Person appointments, engineer development, associated tools and PPE.
  • Working closely with the engineering team you should ensure that for Specialist Sub Contractors visits have been prepared and approved Standard Operating Procedures/ MOP/PTW/ Client change requests.
  • Ensure that Specialist Sub Contractor worksheets are signed off where necessary, that quality of work has been inspected and recommendations are communicated by the Site Personnel.
  • To provide technical support to the engineering team, and take ownership of Incident Reports and After Incident Reviews when required.
  • Take a leading role in the technical development of all members of the engineering team.
  • Working in partnership with Client CEM to drive improvements engineering competency.
  • Attend weekly operations meetings, client meetings as requested, in conjunction with the Account Manager.
  • To assist the Account Manager in completing the Monthly and Quarterly Engineering Report as detailed in the Client contract ensuring that significant events or activities are noted.
  • Manage CBRE QHSE log books, reviewing, auditing and maintaining quality of log book system
  • Prepare information to be included in the Supplier monthly site reports.
  • Ensure the asset database and electronic O&M systems are correct and up to date.
  • Drive a culture within the team, where energy saving and environmental sustainability is a natural behaviour.
  • Provide input into CBRE risk register and report on critical systems availability.
  • Impromptu challenge of engineers to ensure knowledge and understanding of critical infrastructures is at an appropriate level.
  • Ensure all critical equipment maintenance is undertaken in line with requirements
  • Production of quotation for critical infrastructure enhancement / remedial works
  • Implementation of critical infrastructure scenario plans
  • On call Management support of engineering resource.
  • Contribute to the overall Business Continuity and Risk Mitigation plan
  • Contribute to the overall safety of the account by engaging with and leading quality, health, safety and environmental initiatives instigated by the company.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to drive improvements across the site for the benefit of all parties.
  • Ensure that all risks identified by the business are communicated to the client in a timely manner and escalated as necessary to stakeholders within CBRE.

Operation and trouble shooting for the following:

  • HV & LV Electrical Systems
  • DRUPS and ancillary systems
  • Building management system.
  • Lighting Control system.
  • CMMS
  • Air conditioning System, DFU's, FCU's, AHU's and ACU's.
  • Variable speed drives.
  • Boilers and heating system.
  • DRUPS and ancillary components.
  • Single phase and three phase motors.
  • Emergency lighting.

Personal Qualities:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Data Centre or Critical Environment operations
  • A nationally recognised electrical qualification to at least HND standard or 10 year's relevant experience with ONC / C&G
  • Previous appointment as HV/LV AP Required.
  • Previous appointment as HV/LV Senior Authorised Person preferred.
  • 18th Edition IEE: Wiring and Installation
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct a small team of technicians/operatives.
  • Proactive in achieving the highest standard of operation.
  • Have good IT and report writing skills.
  • Individuals who can demonstrate commitment and previous site experience; but not meet all the required technical qualifications may be considered subject to client approval.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm, clear thinking and able to deliver the required services to the client within given time constraints.
  • Individuals who can demonstrate commitment and previous experience; but not meet all the required technical qualifications may be considered subject to Directors approval.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to attend on and off site training for plant and systems this may require nights away from home.
