We are looking for a Technical Manager (Water infrastructure) to lead the engineering design process from feasibility to detailed design, the Technical Manager will drive the delivery of potable water and wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards while promoting safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
This role sits within a collaborative Design and Build environment, requiring engagement with internal and external stakeholders. The focus is on developing innovative and cost-effective engineering designs, construction and operational stakeholders .
What you'll be doing
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the engineering design delivery for projects.
- Develop and manage Engineering Project Plans, covering scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources.
- Assess design complexity and allocate competent resources using the "best for task" principle.
- Implement and monitor design quality procedures to achieve a right-first-time approach.
- Engage, select, and manage suppliers and subcontractors to review and integrate design inputs.
- Design development from feasibility studies, optioneering, and detailed designs.
- Apply relevant design standards, British Standards, and Eurocodes in the design of buried pipework and other network ancillaries (e.g., thrust blocks, pumping stations, flowmeters, and control valves).
- Understand and apply Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations, including the duties of the Principal Designer, production of design risk assessments, pre-construction information, and the H&S file.
Who we're looking for
What we are looking for:
- Experience in the water sector and involvement in capital project delivery is highly desirable.
- A BEng or MEng/MSc in Civil Engineering (minimum 2:1) from a recognized university is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in performing design calculations for infrastructure projects, including pipe design & bedding, thrust blocks, manholes, shaft tanks, and buried attenuation structures, in accordance with British Standards, Eurocodes, and other industry guidelines such as CIRIA and BRE.
- Prior exposure to a Design & Build environment is advantageous but not essential.
- Actively working towards chartered engineer status with a recognized institution such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE).
