Purpose of the Role
Join the Technical Conformity - Product Certification team as the Technical Manager - Vehicle Safety Certification where you'll provide technical strategic leadership, guidance and in depth knowledge to support and ensure vehicle safety compliance. With a focus on the EU, North American and South Korean markets and supporting the China market team to ensure delivery on time and within budget, for current and future projects. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that the team have the necessary technical direction to allow them to deliver safety certification. Reporting to the Functional Manager your main responsibilities include;

  • Developing strategic technical direction working closely with the Functional Manager to shape future safety certification delivery strategies
  • Ability to interpret specialist technical knowledge to communicate and justify appropriate technical decisions
  • Management of project costs against forecasts, capturing the spend to date and reporting this to the Functional Manager.
  • Principle liaison with technical services and where applicable government agencies
  • Analysing new project content and creating costing evaluations
  • Leading the team through worst case processes and associated quality gateways
  • Creating detailed test plans for delivery of all projects, using inputs from engineers and in line with departmental project plan
  • Technical lead for subject delivery in all applicable markets
  • Identification of project delivery risks and developing appropriate mitigation plans
  • Managing internal key performance trackers and reporting status to the Functional Manager
  • Supporting/training Engineers with implementation of new legislation

About the Team
Engineering Technical Conformity ensure compliance of all Bentley vehicles with applicable legislation to enable their sale. In addition, we safeguard the end customer and the Bentley brand by ensuring errors in the design and development process are prevented from becoming consequential.

About you - Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be an Engineer / Senior Engineer with demonstrable knowledge in the application of vehicle safety regulations ideally within the automotive industry. You will have established influencing skills that can be utilised across a range of stakeholders, including our VW Group partners to advise on recommendations. You will also be the technical point of contact for your internal team and as such, must be able to translate technical information into an understandable format according to your audience.

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of safety certification subjects
  • Able to understand specific technical issues relating to the application of safety regulations and effectively communicate findings at all levels within the business
  • Able to co-ordinate the team's day-to-day project delivery plans, support planning of test work and liaise with external technical services
  • Proven experience of negotiating with internal and external suppliers
  • Ability to lead on technical strategy inputs working with the wider R&D departments and colleagues
  • A Higher Engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • An eye for detail and a structured approach to work
