Purpose of the Role
Join the Technical Conformity - Product Certification team as the Technical Manager - Market Delivery where you'll provide technical strategic leadership, VW Group alignment, guidance and in depth knowledge to support and ensure Market Delivery compliance. With a focus on the EU and GB markets from a technical aspect, ensuring delivery on time and within budget, for current and future projects. The role is responsible for ensuring that the team have the necessary technical direction to allow them to deliver certification. Reporting to the Functional Manager your main responsibilities include;
- Developing strategic technical direction and working with Functional Manager to shape future Whole Vehicle and Market certification delivery strategies
- Ability to interpret specialist technical knowledge, communicate and justify appropriate technical decisions to any level within the business
- Principle liaison with technical services and where applicable government agencies
- Analysing new project content, creating costing evaluations and reporting to Functional Manager
- Identification of project delivery risks and developing appropriate mitigation plans
- Key point of contact for authority queries with respect to Whole Vehicle Type Approval and/or Certificate of Conformity queries
- Support EU/GB derogation applications for end-of-life products where required
- Management and maintenance of the Vehicle Certification System, ensuring the system complies with the latest legislation and requirements. Manage IT development requests and support development with system test activities where required
- Training engineers on technical skills
- Managing internal key performance trackers and reporting status to Functional Manager
- Supporting engineers with implementation of new legislation items
- Maintain effective communication internally, within VW Group and with external governing bodies
- Proposing process and method improvements to develop departmental capability
About the Team
Engineering Technical Conformity ensure compliance of all Bentley vehicles with applicable legislation to enable their sale. In addition, we safeguard the end customer and the Bentley brand by ensuring errors in the design and development process are prevented from becoming consequential.
About you - Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be an Engineer / Senior Engineer with demonstrable knowledge in the application of vehicle regulations to automotive product, with particular focus on European Whole Vehicle Approval and Certificates of Conformity. You will have appropriate experience working in the Automotive Industry, experience of whole vehicle certification would be beneficial. You will have established influencing skills that can be utilised across a range of stake holders including our VW Group partners in your subject matter area of expertise, to advise on recommendations where required. You will also be the technical point of contact for your internal team and as such, must be able to translate technical information into an understandable format according to your audience.
- Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of vehicle system approval subjects and also an ability to interpret any item of vehicle approval legislation
- Able to understand specific technical issues relating to the application of whole vehicle regulations and effectively communicate findings at all levels within the business
- Able to interpret market specific type approval requirements
- Able to co-ordinate the overall team delivery plans, support planning of whole vehicle delivery activities and liaise with external technical services.
- Proven experience of negotiating with internal and external suppliers
- Ability to lead on whole vehicle technical strategy inputs working with other departments and colleagues.
- A Higher Engineering degree or technical equivalent experience
- An eye for detail and a structured approach to work
