The Role
Are you an experienced technical professional with a passion for quality, food safety, and hygiene? Sofina Foods is seeking a Site Technical Manager to lead the technical and hygiene functions at our seafood manufacturing facility in Annan. This role would suit someone in a Technical Manager role, or in a Quality Manager role ready for that next step.
At the Annan site, we produce Youngs Scampi for many major retailers. We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest standards while fostering a close-knit and collaborative working environment. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of site compliance, ensuring best practices in food safety and hygiene while driving continuous improvement.
Note: This role involves some travel to Malton (Yorkshire) to attend CI meetings (up to 6x per year), and some travel to Kilkeel (Northern Ireland) to provide technical support to the small team there (up to 4x per year).
This role is based in Annan, the Scottish Borders. Candidates will be required to work on site 5 days per week due to the nature of the role.
Duties Include:
- Lead and manage the technical and hygiene teams, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Oversee and maintain the site's quality management system, ensuring adherence to BRC and food safety requirements.
- Foster a strong food safety and hygiene culture across the site.
- Oversee site hygiene strategies, working with the hygiene supervisor to ensure best-in-class standards.
- Manage internal and external non-conformances, ensuring effective corrective actions.
- Support site preparations for audits and inspections, ensuring full compliance with food safety regulations.
- Provide training and coaching to develop team competence in quality and hygiene.
- Work closely with operations and NPD teams to ensure seamless product development and launch.
- Monitor and report on key technical and hygiene performance metrics.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in quality, food safety, and hygiene.
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential
- Experience in a senior technical role within food manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards, including HACCP and BRC.
- Leadership experience, with the ability to develop and manage teams effectively.
- Experience working closely with hygiene operations in a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Seafood experience
- Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
- Advanced HACCP qualification.
- Experience in a smaller manufacturing site
