Technical Governance Manager

Aztec West, Bristol - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

Are you an experienced engineering professional? Do you have a strong background in engineering, leadership, or project management, with in-depth knowledge of EPR design and engineering processes? Are you able to understand complex technical topics and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders? If so, come and join EDF as a Technical Governance Manager!

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E's integrated teams.

As a Technical Governance Manager, you will oversee and drive the technical decision-making process, ensuring compliance with HPC project organisation. In this role you will pilot the arbitration and prioritisation of technical topics requiring resolution, coordinating with stakeholders for consensus, and supporting teams in preparing materials for technical committees. You'll contribute to evolutions to the Technical Governance processes and lead their implementation to ensure they are adequate for the challenges of the various project phases.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary from £70,000 to £80,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We're talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone's welcome. We're on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we support you to pursue a career that's unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you'll be doing

  • You'll lead and manage the technical decision-making process, ensuring alignment with the HPC project organisation and governance structure. In this role, you'll participate in prioritising and resolving technical issues, escalating critical matters to senior stakeholders to secure buy-in and consensus from all relevant parties. Additionally, you will assist teams in preparing topics for technical committee presentations, with a particular focus on ensuring 'Design Stability.'
  • You'll also be responsible for reviewing and challenging the technical content to ensure it is ready for presentation in the relevant committees. To facilitate multidisciplinary discussions and resolve complex issues, you'll organise weekly forums such as NIAM and Change Committees, chaired by the Edvance HPC Technical Director. You'll ensure that all decisions made during these forums are documented and tracked in a timely and proper manner.
  • Beyond these responsibilities, you'll identify opportunities to improve current practices and propose enhancements to the Technical Governance process to meet the project's evolving needs. Acting as the primary contact for high-profile technical topics, you'll also oversee a small team of engineers, guiding them in managing the Governance Process effectively.

Who you are

Being a Technical Lead at HPC means having a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, along with demonstrable experience in engineering, leadership, or project management. You'll need extensive knowledge and experience with EPR design and engineering processes, as well as a solid understanding of UK laws, regulations, and nuclear industry best practices. A key part of the role involves comprehending complex technical topics and producing accurate, concise summaries.

You'll bring cross-functional technical coordination experience and the ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Your role will require you to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality, ensuring that all aspects of the project meet stringent regulatory and industry requirements.

If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you!

Success is personal. It's your journey, powered by us. Join us and we'll help Britain achieve Net Zero, together.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation - but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We're not just building new nuclear power stations. We're developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there's always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it's also an industry which is changing.

We're a responsible business and proud to be Britain's biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
