Position: Technical Director - Dams

Location: UK wide including London, Manchester, Chester, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Nottingham and Guildford

GHD, a leading engineering and consulting firm, is seeking an outstanding individual for the role of Technical Director - Dams. This leadership position involves steering technical excellence, driving innovation, and ensuring the highest standards of quality within the discipline.

Purpose of the Role: As the Technical Director for Dams, you will be the UK's top technical authority in this discipline. Your role is pivotal in developing technical capability, championing quality excellence, and fostering a culture of innovation. You will lead a community of practice, ensuring that best practices and knowledge are shared, and innovations are identified and recommended for adoption.

Individual Accountabilities:

Technical Leadership:

• Identify and leverage engineering industry trends and innovative solutions to support winning work.
• Act as the ultimate technical authority over best practice processes, technology, and data, approving standardization, automation, and technical content.
• Establish and lead a UK-wide technical discipline community of practice, promoting the sharing of best practices and innovation.
• Embed EDO quality management protocols, ensuring strict compliance with GHD quality systems and processes.
• Manage technical non-conformances, providing strategic solutions.

People Leadership:

• Provide visionary leadership to the dam engineering team, aligning with GHD's values.
• Drive technical excellence through regular project team meetings, fostering collaboration between discipline teams.
• Resolve technical issues between teams and clients.
• Collaborate with Discipline Leads to enable effective resourcing of the design team.

Project Delivery:

• Act as the Technical Design Lead for high-profile, complex, multiple discipline, or large moderately complex dam projects.
• Oversee all project phases, ensuring milestones and objectives are met.
• Lead the development and submission of design work proposals for major projects.
• Ensure the implementation and adherence to company standards across the Discipline Group.
• Identify and resolve quality, budget, or time risks, escalating as needed.
• Participate actively in lessons learned sessions, technical, and service line communities of practice.

Minimum Skills & Experience:

• Is technically sought after both within GHD and from external / national and or/international clients / industry bodies to act as a Trusted Advisor (typically through papers published/regular conference speaking engagements)
• Is recognized as being highly technical capable and is regularly drawn on for technical knowledge by others.
• Experience of bringing together cross-business teams and aligning them to achieve common goals and commitments.
• Indirectly influence teams to improve quality and technical delivery
• Has experience of design and delivery of technical training content
