In Environmental Services, the Grounds Maintenance team are engaged in the direct maintenance and management of environmental infrastructure including countryside sites, public open spaces, verges, woodlands, parks and cemeteries. Our focus is to further improve performance and find efficiencies by recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Team Manager to oversee and manage operational service delivery across the City
As the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader assisted by two area managers, you will manage the Grounds Maintenance operational and business functions. You will be the lead contact for the Public and your duties will include the statutory and operational duties, health and safety, income management, and communication. You would be responsible for helping to manage one of the varied local authority portfolios with significant formal and informal sites that are visited by a very high number of people. You will also contribute to key initiatives such as reviewing the operational services and processes on an ongoing basis and making recommendations for improvement or development of the business.
You will report directly to the Environment and Leisure Service Manager and will work and liaise closely with the Parks, Countryside and Bereavement Team Leaders. Within the wider Environment role there will be an expectation to work closely with other team managers as clients and colleagues' covering highways, cleansing, drainage, waste management, health and safety, civil contingency and legal services. There will also be requirements for interaction with Councillors, Cabinet Members and community council members, a range of specialist contractors, technical external experts, organisations and public stakeholders. The expectation will be the provision of a high quality, and effective maintenance service for all stakeholders across the City and region of Newport and local surrounding areas.
Enthusiastic and confident, you should have a management qualification or equivalent and have the ability to lead and motivate a diverse workforce. You should have experience managing operational services and personnel, maintenance contracts in the grounds area management area, directly related revenue and capital budgets and have experience of statutory requirements of the role including legal constraints, government policy and the assessment and mitigation of risk in relation to health and safety at work.
You need an organised and analytical approach to your work - and you are used to maintaining attention to detail while working to tight deadlines. You are self-motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and appreciate the importance of customer care. You have strong financial management skills and a creative approach to problem solving with excellent IT and data analysis/management skills.
