ADULT Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) - Multi Agency Safeguarding Team (Temporary for 1 year, possibly continued pending funding)

Join our team and help us to develop the new role of the Adult Local Authority Designated Officer (ALADO) Sheffield City Council have adopted this title, role and function as part of its responsibilities under their Adult Safeguarding duties.

We are seeking a dynamic individual with a strong background in leadership skills and with professional experience of multi-agency challenge to perform this role and function on behalf of the Safeguarding Adults Board and the Sheffield local authority.

You will be responsible for leading, developing and implementing processes for dealing with allegations against People in Positions of Trust (PiPoT) which refers to anyone who works (either paid or unpaid) with adults who have care and support needs.

As the ADULT LADO you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our service and making a positive impact on the lives of those we support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make decisions and support others to determine what is and is not a PiPoT concern and what procedures should be followed to ensure a thorough and fair approach.
  • Make an initial assessment and consider if anyone is at immediate risk of potential harm or exploitation.
  • Make informed decisions to contact employers to share appropriate information and discuss risk management plans.
  • Will work in conjunction with the Police where it is thought that a criminal offence has occurred.
  • Will work in conjunction with other professionals and services to gather information and determine outcomes i.e. domestic abuse, children's safeguarding.
  • Will follow the progress of a situation with internal/external agencies through to conclusion.
  • Will offer advice and support in relation to internal and external organisations.
  • Will advise whether a safeguarding concern should be raised and support Adult Care and Wellbeing practitioners in ensuring the correct actions are taken where a PiPoT is the source of harm in a section 42 enquiry.
  • Will work with SCC, Human Resources regarding the correct application of S.42 duties where the source of harm is an SCC employee.
  • Will attend meetings where advice or information is required in relation to PiPoT concerns i.e., complex planning, organisational concerns, MASH huddles, Partnership meetings, Children's LADO meetings and others as appropriate.
  • Will support current and any future systems used in ACW to record PiPoT concerns and provide information as appropriate and necessary.
  • Will horizon scan to ensure policy and procedures support legislative requirements and best practice.
  • Will provide training and education to ACW and external staff as required.
  • Will work with partners/organisations including the police to support them with procedures in undertaking their duties for managing PiPoT concerns.
  • Will provide clear guidance to Safeguarding Board and their partners on which PiPoT concerns need to be referred to the local authority and which concerns they are responsible for managing.

Skills and Experience:

  • An understanding of the Care Act (2014).
  • An understanding of adult safeguarding and child protection law.
  • An understanding of criminal law.
  • An understanding of employment law.
  • An understanding of safeguarding processes.
  • A knowledge and experience of risk assessments.
  • The ability to work with people and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role.

Requirements:

  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Experience in social care work and safeguarding.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in recording and managing information in a format that is readily available.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
