Camden's Children and Young People's Disability Service (CYPDS) is the main provider of social work and social care services for children and young people aged 0-25 with complex needs arising from their disability. The CYPDS service is situated in the Children's Safeguarding and Social Work division of Camden's Supporting People Directorate. The CYPDS works within the parameters of Camden's child's journey principles whereby the child and their family receive a social work service from the most appropriate social work team and experience as few changes of social worker as possible throughout their journey. This means that the CYPDS take a whole family approach and work with both disabled children and their non disabled siblings delivering statutory social work intervention.
The CYPDS service undertake assessments and hold case responsibility for disabled children in need, supported under enhanced or core offer short breaks provision, disabled children supported under protection plans or those who are children in care, care experienced and when preparing for adulthood from the age of 14 up to 25.
What You'll Be Doing / How You'll Be Involved
Within this role you will be responsible for supervision and line management of Social Workers, Advanced Practitioners, and/or Short Breaks Practitioner Lead with a focus on excellent safeguarding and social work practice, partnership working, early preparation for adulthood for disabled young people, good quality assessments and care planning for children and young people with severe and profound disabilities and complex health needs across 0-25 service. The post holder will also be coordinating, planning and maintaining close links with external and internal key partners like schools, children and adults health services, SEND service, Commissioning, Placements teams and short breaks providers.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS. Please note Camden also offers the DBS update service.

The successful candidate will be a qualified social work professional with current SWE registration. You will have relevant management/ supervision of social work and/ or social care staff experience. You will have the ability to manage staff performance, assess need, develop, implement and manage a service plan and contribute to budget planning. You will act as Duty Manager on a rota basis.
You will have working knowledge of Children's Act and/or Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards statutory guidance. You will have an understanding of the Children and Families Act and the Leaving Care Act, and an understanding of Continuing Care framework for Children's and Adults, and any other statutory guidance or legislation relevant to children and young people with SEN and disability, and their families, parents carers.
You will be able to contribute to service improvements through ideas and participating in service initiatives, taking leads in certain areas as required. You will also support customers facing crisis whilst liaising with other services to ensure wherever possible that we meet the needs of our residents.
