The Centre for Adherence Research and Education is a research and learning hub for understanding and addressing non-adherence issues. CARE draws on the proven expertise of clinicians and researchers working in the locality.

By raising healthcare professionals', caregivers' and social care staff's awareness of the non-adherence challenge and by providing straight forward and user-friendly approaches to help patients engage with their treatment - CARE aims to improve patients' health outcomes. Our management group and steering committee includes senior clinicians and researchers from across King's Health Partners and the wider community.

CARE is based within the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and contributes to departmental undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of healthcare professionals.. Our School comprises of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science which have a mission to improve patient response through fundamental science discovery translated into patient care.

The School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences has 300 members of staff (including 80 Principal Investigators) and 200 PhD students located across King's Guy's, Denmark Hill and Waterloo campuses.

Our academic excellence is widely recognised: we are ranked 14th in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology (2019 QS subject rankings) and first in the UK for Clinical Medicine in terms of the proportion of King's overall submission that was ranked 4* or 3* (REF2014).

We teach both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including our highly regarded MPharm degree.

About the role

This role will provide maternity cover to an academic member of staff and is ideal for candidates wishing to develop their teaching and academic experience, contribute to research supervision and contribute to a programme of continually updated evidence-based training for healthcare professionals wishing to improve their practice.

The post holder will contribute to teaching, administration and evaluation of teaching on topics related to health psychology and consultation skills on the undergraduate pharmacy degree, including lectures, simulation workshops and supervision of undergraduate and masters-level research projects.

Teaching on postgraduate and healthcare professional training courses conducted by the Centre for Adherence Research and Education (CARE) will also be part of this role. The postholder will also contribute to the ongoing programme of training and evaluation conducted at CARE and have operational responsibility for CARE activities.

The successful applicant will work with other members of CARE to organise, deliver, develop and evaluate existing and new training modules. They will also have responsibility for engaging in the broader activities of CARE for example contributing to digital activity such as blogs and social media to raise awareness of the challenge of nonadherence.

The post holder will report to Prof Ben Forbes, Head of Department.

This is a full time post, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 18/08/2025.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria (Senior Teaching Fellow)

  1. PhD qualified in relevant subject area
  2. Ability to communicate behavioural science/health psychology to range of healthcare professionals
  3. Understanding of role of pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in supporting adherence and other health behaviours
  4. Experience of effective healthcare professional teaching using a range of teaching approaches
  5. Proven ability to design and analyse evaluations of teaching and training activities
  6. Experience of project and line management
  7. Ability to identify areas where current provision needs revision or improvement and develop new provision
  8. Ability to foster collaborative relationships within CARE, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, and the wider university and hospital systems.

  1. PhD qualified in relevant subject area (or pending award)
  2. Ability to communicate behavioural science/health psychology to range of healthcare professionals.
  3. Understanding of role of pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in supporting adherence and other health behaviours
  4. Experience of effective teaching using a range of teaching approaches
  5. Ability to design and analyse evaluations of teaching and training activities
  6. Experience of project management
  7. Ability to identify areas where current provision needs revision or improvement
  8. Ability to develop new collaborative relationships within CARE, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, and the wider university and hospital systems.

Desirable criteria (Senior Teaching Fellow)

  1. Experience of teaching in a higher educational setting to qualitfied healthcare professionals
  2. Ability to develop and progress ideas for generating income and promoting current training.
  3. Experience of navigating higher education systems and processes including costings and online learning environments.
  4. Ability to balance the pressures of teaching, project management and administrative demands and competing deadlines and support others to do this.

Desirable criteria (Teaching Fellow)

  1. Experience of teaching in a higher educational setting
  2. Ability to develop ideas for generating income and promoting current training.
  3. Knowledge of higher education systems and processes including costings and online learning environments.
  4. Ability to balance the pressures of teaching, project management and administrative demands and competing deadlines.
