Permanent - Term Time Only
19.5 hour to 32.5 hours per week ( 3 - 5 days)
39 weeks worked per year/46.20 weeks paid per year
Grade 4 - SSP 9-10 (FTE £25,185 to £25,583)
Pro rata starting salary from £11,792 to £19,654 p.a.
The Workplace is an aspirational and innovative Alternative Provision Free School in East Sussex. The Workplace provides industry relevant education for students in year 9-11 which is high quality, based on partnerships and focussed on enterprise. It offers students a strong grounding in Maths, English, Science and Enterprise alongside quality provision in one of six vocational areas (Hairdressing & Barbering, Hospitality & Catering, Multi-trades construction, Automotive, Sports & Fitness and Arts & Creativity).
Students who access The Workplace come from across East Sussex and have been identified as at being at risk of disengagement from their commissioning school. We have high expectations of students via Workplace standards, to suitably prepare them for post-16 and the wider world of work. Staff work with employers across industry to ensure that classroom practice replicates the world of work and ensure students develop relevant skills and knowledge.
The role of the Teaching Assistant 3 - Mentor is a key position, supporting students in a number of vocational areas and core subjects. Mentors offer classroom support, pastoral support and work with class teachers to develop meaningful programmes. They sometime supervise classes to cover staff absence, working in small teams to deliver quality cover classes. Whilst experience of working with young people would be advantageous, the ability to develop and sustain meaningful relationships and champion students who have struggled to access mainstream education is key.
We are looking to recruit a number of Teaching Assistant 3 Mentor with experience or an interest in one of the following areas:
- Automotive
- Construction
- Sport
- Art & Media
- Hairdressing and Barbering
- Hospitality & Catering
- Core subjects - English, Maths or Science
We have a number of positions available, starting from 19.5 hours per week over 3 days to 32.5 hours per week, over 5 days. The scheduled hours of work per day is from 8.30am to 3.30pm. We are a warm, friendly and supportive team, with additional benefits, such as free daily lunch.
If successful, you will be employed initially by The SABDEN Multi Academy Trust and then transferred via TUPE to London South East Academies Trust in early to mid 2026.
