Our team is looking for an Assistant Manager with either significant experience of preparing the technical aspects of R&D claims, or from a strong scientific/engineering background. The role sits in our Corporates performance group and works with the national IRI Tax practice. You will be required to use your R&D knowledge and technical experience to help our clients in make claims for R&D Tax relief across a wide spectrum of industry sectors. The role will may involve some travel to attend meetings at client sites.

What will you be doing?

  • Work with the engagement team to support the development of claim methodologies and prepare R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  • Support / lead the process of performing technical interviews to assess projects for R&D eligibility.
  • Prepare summary descriptions of the work being undertaken within complex projects in straightforward language that is clear to understand to be submitted to the HMRC. Support the management of client engagements, including liaising with KPMG tax/costing colleagues and client staff to ensure correct quantification of R&D claims. Provide technical input to support discussions with HMRC specialists to facilitate the agreement of R&D claims.
  • Help to establish and maintain strong client relationships with both existing and new clients.
    Support in progressing business development opportunities.

What will you need to do it?

  • Highly client-centric - able to support/lead technical discussions and explain complex legislative concepts to scientists / engineers in industry.
  • Ideally a working knowledge of the technical R&D criteria and its application to science/engineering activities; alternatively, industry experience in a field of science/technology and ability to rapidly grasp new technical concepts.
  • Must be capable of producing documentation efficiently/rapidly and to a high level of quality and readability. Must be able to manage own workload well, as well as developing project management / delegation skills.
  • Capability to work within cross-disciplinary teams.
