Director of Supply Chain
Level: Senior Leadership
Reporting to: Vice President, Global Supply Chain
Position Overview
This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing the European Supply Chain operations and managing global external supply partnerships. The focus is on ensuring seamless product availability for customers through efficient planning, logistics, and supplier management. Key performance indicators include On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) delivery, cost management against budget, inventory availability, and third-party logistics (3PL) performance.
The position encompasses a broad range of supply chain functions, including planning, order fulfillment, logistics, warehousing, trade compliance, and GDP adherence in Europe. Additionally, the role involves leading a team of 10 professionals while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive results.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Excellence:
- Ensure timely execution of orders from production to distribution.
- Collaborate with external supply management teams to achieve OTIF targets and customer service levels.
- Support the launch of new products in Europe and onboard external supply products globally.
- Actively participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and other supply chain initiatives.
- Supplier Management:
- Identify alternate vendors for risk mitigation and support procurement discussions.
- Build strong relationships with external suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and flexibility in scaling supplies.
- Develop supplier performance scorecards and establish review mechanisms based on delivery timeliness, documentation accuracy, and quality standards.
- Logistics & Inventory Oversight:
- Lead the EU Logistics Manager in managing warehouses, imports/exports, 3PLs, and distribution activities across Europe.
- Work with planners to maintain agreed safety stock levels and ensure accurate SAP transactions for inventory management.
- Drive cost optimization projects related to transportation and 3PL operations.
- Customer-Centric Approach:
- Collaborate with sales teams to address demand fluctuations while managing lead times effectively.
- Provide responsive communication on order statuses and resolve issues promptly.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with quality teams for timely testing and release of products.
- Work closely with finance, regulatory, HR, business development, and other departments to address operational challenges.
- Leadership & Reporting:
- Guide and develop a high-performing team while fostering a collaborative culture.
- Generate reports, conduct analyses, and present insights in key forums as needed.
This position requires moderate travel within Europe to oversee operations firsthand and troubleshoot supply chain challenges as they arise.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or Business (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in procurement (external sourcing), planning, logistics, or commercial operations-preferably within the pharmaceutical industry.
- At least five years of SAP expertise is mandatory.
- Proven track record of leading supply chain organizations for over eight years in multinational environments.

- Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams effectively.
- Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills across diverse cultural settings.
- Leadership experience managing teams directly or through influence for at least five years.
Additional Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of integrated supply chain processes and project management experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with trade compliance regulations and GDP standards is highly desirable.
