We're looking for individuals who can help us grow our Sustainability and ESG Assurance business. We are looking for sustainability specialists with practical experience in one or more of the following of areas, including: greenhouse gas accounting and climate risk, pollution-related impacts on air and water, waste management and the circular economy and finally, biodiversity and/or nature risk.

Our objective is to serve in the public interest and deliver quality assurance over ESG and sustainability information, playing our part in improving the overall quality of UK financial and corporate reporting. The scope and breadth of the ESG and sustainability information we assure is expanding and therefore we would like to augment our team's subject matter expertise in a number of technical areas. We are looking for candidates with a high level [FS1] of technical sustainability knowledge, combined with practical application in industry, assurance or consulting.

The Manager role will include:

  • Acting as subject matter expert within the team for your areas of expertise, involving addressing methodological and technical queries, reviewing technical information, developing materials and templates and training and mentoring other team members.
  • Contributing to the assurance process for sustainability reporting in your areas of expertise, including assessing compliance with relevant standards of ESG and Sustainability disclosures (such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive - "(CSRD)", Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures - "TCFD" or International Sustainability Standards Board - "ISSB"). This may include (and dependent on your expertise) everything from greenhouse gas emissions and water usage to recycling volumes, health and safety incident data or diversity and inclusion metrics.
  • Assisting clients with increasing their understanding of ESG and Sustainability frameworks and reporting requirements relevant to their business decisions, including which disclosures to focus on, managing related data, establishing controls, performing analysis, risk management and modelling.
  • Being a member of the Sustainability Assurance manager team and contributing to team management and team development.
  • Managing engagements with clients, including managing stakeholders, quality and risk, deliverables and a team.
  • Contributing to long-term relationships with clients, to be regarded as a trusted assurance provider, with quality assurance being at the core of our proposition.
  • Playing a supporting role on our targeting for ESG and Sustainability Assurance across both financial services and corporate clients, identifying new opportunities and developing relationships, including building a strong internal network with audit teams and other sustainability specialists across our firm.
  • Providing specialist support to audit teams who must now consider climate and sustainability risks in the audit, including the impact on the income statement and balance sheet, and the consistency of reporting in Annual Reports and Accounts.
  • Provide specialist support to audit bids, where sustainability and climate are now a central part of audit retention and capture, so it's a strategic imperative for the team to provide specialist support to audit bids.
  • Keeping abreast of emerging trends, developments, and regulatory changes in sustainability reporting and assurance, providing thought leadership within the organisation and assisting in developing new 'go to market' propositions as new trends and standards emerge.
  • Working in a diverse team and promoting an inclusive culture where colleagues are recognised for their contribution.

Connect to your skills and professional experience

To qualify for this opportunity, you must have the following experience:

  • Established practical experience of working with ESG and sustainability information and disclosures in one of the following areas: greenhouse gas accounting and climate risk, pollution-related impacts on air and water, waste management and the circular economy, biodiversity and/or nature risk. Experience can be gained in industry, assurance or consulting or via a strong industry based expertise (e.g. oil and gas, financial services, retail, pharmaceuticals).
  • Strong applied experience of ESG and sustainability reporting and disclosure requirements, including frameworks such as TCFD, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board ("SASB"), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and emerging regulatory requirements, such as CSRD or ISSB, and investor expectations in relation to frameworks.
  • An understanding of the role of assurance, the different types of services that can be provided (e.g. limited vs reasonable assurance) and specific challenges in the ESG and Sustainability assurance market (e.g. 'greenwashing').
  • An awareness and understanding of recognised assurance standards such as ISAE 3000 and concepts such as materiality, risk assessment and understanding internal control.
  • Understanding or experience of sustainability reporting tools and software and the application of such tools for non-financial reporting.
  • A commitment to quality and demonstrable experience of applying professional scepticism and effective risk management.
  • Project management experience with a proven ability to meet client deadlines.
  • Experience of motivating and developing high performing diverse teams.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the willingness to be hands-on and pay attention to detail.
  • A strong track record of delivering profitable business growth and a commercial mindset.
  • Demonstrable experience of building great client relationships and internal and external networks.
  • An ability to think creatively, generate innovative ideas, challenge the status quo and deliver change.

Personal independence

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships).
