Brief Description

The Western Strategic Planning & Development team works with stakeholders across the industry to influence and publish strategic plans for development of the railway in Western Route (Devon & Cornwall, West of England, Oxfordshire, and the Thames Valley).

We are a friendly and open team of ten with a range of experience and backgrounds.

The Strategy & Planning Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative, technical and analytical support to the team.

In this role you will be central to the smooth operation of the team, with the chance to fully involve yourself in the work we undertake. You will assist the development of appropriate network capability and capacity that meets the long term needs of the rail industry, its users, funders and stakeholders to help us set out the vision for the future of Network Rail's Western Route.

About the role (External)

1. Support System Operator teams in the formation and facilitation of cross industry groups to maintain key internal and external stakeholder relationships, providing data and information as required.

2. Act as document controller to manage the creation, version and change control of a portfolio of route plans that reflect asset policies, and align to utilisation strategies and other industry plans.

3. Produce necessary documentation to support capacity study analysis taking into account the existing capability, contractual & regulatory obligations, and the implications of expected future traffic levels upon the GB Rail Network.

4. Collate data and provide analytical expertise to System Operator in support of the review of new franchise specifications and revised franchise requirements.

Monitor and audit internal processes to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to process owners.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• Knowledge and understanding of the rail industry

• Strong analytical and numerical skills

• Good communication skills (verbal and written)

• Ability to interrogate and utilise data systems

Desirable

• Educated to degree level or equivalent

Good understanding of the context of central, regional and local rail planning in Great Britain]]>
