Salary: circa GBP 67,000 depending on experience

Location: Canary Wharf

WFH policy: Employees are required to attend the office 2 days/week

Flexible working: Variety of flexible work patterns subject to line manager discretion e.g. Compressed 9-day fortnight.

About LCCC

LCCC is central to the delivery of the Government's objective to achieve Net Zero target by 2050. Our roles are expanding and diversifying beyond renewable electricity generation, to support the development of other low carbon technologies such as hydrogen and carbon capture, usage and storage. LCCC is at a pivotal point in time; advising on, implementing and soon-to-be operating a growing number of these schemes. It is an exciting time for a proactive and driven Strategy Manager to support the effective growth and development of LCCC.

The team

LCCC's Strategy and Shareholder team plays a central role in ensuring LCCC has a clear path to achieving its mission; including through delivering the strategy cycle and business planning. The team also takes on a variety of special projects to help identify and solve issues of strategic importance and capture emerging opportunities. We work in a collaborative, cross-departmental way at all levels. The team regularly engages with and shares findings and recommendations with the CEO, Executive Team, Board and DESNZ. This is an exciting area to have an impact given the scale of growth and change LCCC is experiencing as we take on new schemes, in new Net Zero areas.

Key Responsibilities

The Strategy Manager will work in close collaboration with colleagues in the Strategy and Shareholder team and beyond. The role has three core focus areas;

  1. Managing the design and delivery of the annual strategy cycle and business planning to determine what the organisation needs to prioritise to achieve its objectives.
  2. Driving and supporting discrete strategic projects ranging from a few weeks to several months or more, to help LCCC deliver on its strategy.
  3. Communicating and enabling progress and performance across the organisation.

More detailed responsibilities have been articulated below:

  • Managing the Annual Strategy cycle - Managing the design and delivery of the annual strategy cycle to assess our strategy, propose any adjustments, and determine what the organisation needs to prioritise to achieve its objectives This includes:
    • Designing and delivering workshops for senior stakeholders (CEO, Executive team, Board) to identify areas for improvement.
    • Independently leading internal and external analysis utilising appropriate strategic frameworks, defining key strategic questions, and developing options and roadmaps.
    • Developing and documenting the company's strategic direction; translating themes into actionable initiatives and projects that consider resource needs.
    • Supporting the Performance team in developing the company's scorecard, so that it is in line with the company's strategic objectives.
    • Working with teams and stakeholders to drive engagement and alignment.
  • Managing Business Planning - Managing the design and delivery of the business plan.
    • Facilitating engagement across the business at Heads of level to collate information on our portfolio of schemes and projects.
    • Collaborating with Finance to define resourcing and financial projections.
    • Analysing the information and creating business planning documentation including themes, risks, dependencies, and efficiency opportunities.
  • Driving or supporting strategic projects -
    • Guiding individuals at Heads and Executive levels across the organisation to scope and plan strategic projects (typically from the strategy process), track and manage the delivery of projects, undertake research and analysis, and present insights, options and recommendations.
  • Communication and engagement -
    • Building strong trusted relationships around the organisation and helping different new joiners and teams identify and articulate their contributions to LCCC's overall strategy.
  • Supporting Performance Reporting -
    • Collaborating with the Performance team to facilitate strategy and business plan reviews, ensuring accurate reporting of progress against the business plan.
    • Working with the Performance team to support the development of annual end-of-year corporate performance score and report.
    • Working with the Shareholder team to provide input into the Annual Report.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience applying a variety of strategy development and execution frameworks appropriate to context.
  • Demonstrable experience driving project-based problem-solving and delivery in collaboration with a variety of senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently / autonomously to deliver work.
  • Workshop design and facilitation.
  • Analytical skills - comfortable and efficient deriving insights from quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Communication and presentation skills (including the use of PowerPoint for communicating ideas and structuring options).

Desirable:

  • Degree in Business Administration/Management, Prince2 or other relevant qualifications desirable.
  • Strategy or transformation experience - ideally 1-3 years of management consulting, strategy or transformation experience.
  • Experience of working in the energy sector and/or government environments would be beneficial but not essential.
