About the Role

The opportunity has arisen for a permanent full-time post as a Strategic Planning Manager working in the Strategic Planning Team based in Planning Historic and Natural Environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your strategic planning skills and experience through working closely with officers within the County Council, particularly those involved in the delivery of infrastructure, local authorities in Leicester and Leicestershire and other key partners to help enhance and create sustainable communities across Leicestershire.

You will:

  • Play a leading role in the development and co-ordination of the Council's response to key strategic planning documents and issues, including national policy consultations, local plan consultations, master plans for major developments, and major planning applications and act as a 'business partner' with respect to strategic land-use planning.
  • Ensure the Council plays a full and active part in the Local Planning process, liaising and working with relevant departments and key service areas to ensure positive and timely engagement with district councils.
  • Play a leading role co-ordinating the Council's input into the Leicester and Leicestershire Strategic Growth Plan and other evidence work, including development of policies and proposals for employment land, housing and infrastructure growth, and associated partnership working arrangements.
  • Help ensure the Council's interests are protected and risks are managed in the development and funding of county infrastructure and that the impact of growth on the Council's services is identified and mitigated.

About You

To apply for this post, you must have:

  • A Degree (or equivalent) level in a relevant subject, plus appropriate demonstrable experience
  • Experience in leading or managing complex corporate and/or partnership projects (and/or programs)
  • Experience in building positive and effective relationships with managers, partners, politicians, and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Strategic land-use planning
  • Knowledge of Local planning processes, including major planning applications.
  • An ability to think strategically, understanding the 'whole system', to provideconstructive challenge, and have a professional, creative, problem solving, and solution focussed approach as well as working effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to identify and maximise opportunities, including to do things differently, better and more cost effectively, using negotiation and influencing skills.
