Our Infrastructure and Capital Projects team has extensive experience of advising on major procurements and complex transactions at the interface between the public and private sectors. From initial commercial/financial strategy, market engagement, planning and running transactions / procurements, contract structuring and negotiation through to contract exit and transition.

As a Director within our Infrastructure & Capital Projects team (Defence & National Security), you will be a senior leader responsible for driving and delivering commercial, financial and procurement advisory servicescross our Defence and National Security clients. You will leverage your knowledge of and relationships in the market to secure and deliver on a range of mandates including complex commercial & financial strategies, investment appraisals, procurement & delivery models, contract negotiations and risk management. This role demands a blend of client relationship building, business development, strategic thinking, commercial /financial acumen and team leadership.

Your responsibilities will include:

Business Development & Growth

• Identify, cultivate, and convert new business opportunities within the Defence and National Security markets expanding Deloitte's footprint in commercial and procurement advisory. Whilst we work across both the public and private sectors, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience of private sector Defence and National Security entities.
• Drive business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities, shaping proposals, leading pursuit teams and expanding relationships with existing clients.
• Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.
• Lead the development of compelling proposals, pitches, and thought leadership pieces to showcase Deloitte's capabilities and value proposition.

Client Delivery and Project Leadership

• Lead and oversee the successful delivery of complex commercial and financial advisory engagements within the Defence and National Security sector ensuring high-quality outputs, client satisfaction, and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
• Providing strategic guidance to senior leaders and executives across the public and private sectors on the planning and delivery of complex transformation programmes.
• Engage and collaborate with clients to understand their business objectives, goals and develop a strategy and plan for setting up or transforming their business, with a focus on commercial, contracting, financing and procurement models.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams (incl. leveraging the breadth of expertise and experience across Deloitte) to deliver high quality engagements in line with client and contractual requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution and knowledge sharing.
• Foster strong client and third party relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and maintaining a deep understanding of business needs.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of consultants, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and career guidance to junior colleagues, supporting their professional growth within Deloitte.
• Manage project teams effectively, allocating resources, defining roles, and ensuring clear communication.
• Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance and support in their professional growth.

Thought Leadership & Market Presence

• Act as a recognised subject matter expert in commercial and procurement advisory for infrastructure, both internally and externally.
• Represent Deloitte at industry conferences, seminars, and client events, enhancing our market profile and brand.
• Lead market eminence efforts in the public sector, including staying up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that impact procurement and infrastructure delivery.

Quality & Risk Management

• Ensure all engagements are delivered in accordance with quality standards, risk management policies, and ethical guidelines.
• Proactively identify and mitigate commercial, contractual, and project risks for both clients and Deloitte.

Technical skills and experience:

Essential

• Extensive experience working in the Defence and National Security sector either with a top-tier consultancy, Tier 1 Defence company (or supplier to), within government (with extensive experience of interacting with the supply chain) and with a distinguished track record of delivering successful project outcomes.
• Deep relationships with senior stakeholders across the Defence and National Security sector (public and private sectors), with the ability to influence at Board and Executive level.
• Excellent client relationship management skills, with a focus on building long-term partnerships and delivering exceptional client service.
• Proven experience in leading successful business development, including identifying opportunities, shaping proposals, leading pursuit teams, and expanding client relationships.
• Proven track record of leading and successfully delivering complex commercial, financial and procurement engagements for private and/or private sector clients.
• financial, commercial, and regulatory) impacting UK Defence.
• A deep understanding of the financial and commercial aspects of government and private sector infrastructure, technology and/or service contracts.
• Proven ability to lead project teams, influence stakeholders, and drive consensus in multi-party environments.
• Ability to think strategically, identify market trends, and develop innovative solutions.

Desirable

• A recognised procurement, accountancy or financial qualification (full or part qualified)
• Demonstrable expertise in advising on complex defence supply chain strategies, including optimisation, risk management, and transformation at programme or enterprise level.
• Demonstrable experience and relationships working with Tier 1 Defence companies
