Job Description

The Senior Director, Regulatory Compliance will take ownership of Currencycloud's compliance framework, ensuring adherence to FCA regulations, safeguarding requirements, consumer duty, and the Payment Services Regulations (PSR). This role requires strategic leadership, subject matter expertise, and the ability to collaborate across functions to maintain and enhance our regulatory compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance Leadership:

  • Ensure compliance with FCA regulations, including safeguarding, consumer duty, and PSR.
  • Develop and implement robust compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures to address regulatory obligations.

Safeguarding:

  • Lead the safeguarding function to ensure compliance with FCA requirements for protecting client funds.
  • Conduct regular reviews of safeguarding arrangements and provide recommendations for improvements.

Consumer Duty:

  • Drive the organization's compliance with FCA Consumer Duty, ensuring customer-focused practices and good outcomes.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in embedding consumer-centric approaches throughout the business.

Payment Services Regulations (PSR):

  • Oversee compliance with PSR, ensuring that all payment services provided meet regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and address updates or changes to PSR to align business practices accordingly.

Risk Management and Reporting:

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify, monitor, and mitigate regulatory risks.
  • Provide timely and accurate compliance reports to the executive team, board, and regulatory authorities.

Regulatory Engagement:

  • Act as the primary liaison with the FCA and other regulatory bodies, managing inspections, queries, and audits.
  • Build strong relationships with regulators and external auditors to maintain trust and transparency.

Agent registration and business support

  • Support the business in regulatory activities such as agent registration, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Act as a compliance advisor/Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the business for new initiatives, training, helping business to understand regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor the compliance team, promoting professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Provide training across the organization to enhance compliance awareness and responsibility.

Strategic Initiatives:

  • Monitor and respond to changes in regulatory requirements, proactively adapting policies and practices.
  • Collaborate with product and business teams to ensure regulatory compliance in all new initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of regulatory compliance experience, ideally within financial services, fintech, or payments.
  • Deep understanding of FCA regulations, safeguarding, consumer duty, and PSR.
  • Proven track record of managing relationships with regulatory bodies such as the FCA.
  • Strong experience in developing and implementing risk-based compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in law, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master's or professional certifications like ICA, ACAMS, or equivalent are advantageous).
