We are seeking an experienced, self-driven, and strategic Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) with superior data modeling and analytical skills. This position is critical in building scalable and generic data models that power our global operational excellence initiatives. You will be part of a dynamic team, working alongside Applied Scientist, Software development engineer and Data engineers all close to the business with Performance Management Leads part of the same team.
In this role, you will contribute across all layers of our data solution ecosystem. You'll work closely with software development engineers to implement robust data infrastructure solutions, collaborate with product managers to build scalable data models, and dive deep into our data with a strong bias for action to generate insights that drive business improvements. Your work will directly impact Amazon's operational efficiency and customer experience worldwide.
Key job responsibilities
- Translating business requirements into modular and generic data infrastructure, implementing and managing scalable data platforms that facilitate self-service insights generation and scientific model building, and handling large-scale datasets while creating maintainable, efficient data components.
- Design and implement automation to achieve Best at Amazon standards for system efficiency, IMR efficiency, data availability, consistency, and compliance.
- Work within a sophisticated technical environment, you'll interface with various technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from diverse sources using SQL, Amazon, and AWS big data technologies.
- You'll enable efficient data exploration and experimentation on our data platform while implementing appropriate data access control mechanisms.
- Your role will be instrumental in driving operational excellence within the team, building automation and mechanisms to reduce operations overhead, and collaborating with peers in a group of talented engineers.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
To succeed in this role, you should have extensive experience in data engineering with large-scale systems, expert-level knowledge of distributed systems and big data technologies, and strong programming skills. Experience with real-time data processing and streaming architectures is essential, as is a track record of building systems supporting ML operations at scale.

GOX team is part of EU STEP org that brings together Supply Chain, Network Design, and Transportation Planning teams to improve end-to-end forecasting, network flow, planning, and execution. It also brings together our teams from across the business focused on our Operational Excellence pillars - Amazon Customer Excellence Systems (ACES), Learning, Quality, Service, Sustainability and Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) Field teams. This integration strengthens operations and execution while driving quality improvements and enhanced customer experience across the entire value chain.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
- Statistical Data analysis experience involving making hypotheses, accessing and prepping data and drawing actionable insights
- Experience with AWS technologies (including Redshift, S3, Lambda etc.)
- Coding experience in at least one modern programming language (Python, Ruby, Scala, Java, etc.)
- Ability to self-direct, multitask, and prioritize a constantly evolving workload.
- Proficient using at least one data visualization product (Tableau, Qlik, Amazon QuickSight, Power BI, etc.)
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize workload.
- Proven ability in Optimizing complex SQL queries.
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in BI, Finance, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance or related field required.
- Experience in designing and delivering cross functional custom reporting solutions.
- Proven ability in implementing BI engineering best practices (e.g. analytical rigor, code quality, data quality, data modelling, operational excellence, automation, visualization).
- Experience with R, Python or other statistical/machine learning software.
- Be self-driven, and show ability to deliver on ambiguous projects.
