Part Time / Flexible contract

Part time 10 hours per week (Wed: 0900-1400, Fri 0900-1400, These days may change depending on the needs of the service.

We are looking for an experienced Mammographer to join our established Imaging department on a flexible working contract.
We offer a modern diagnostic and treatment service across two hospital sites of Eastbourne and Hastings.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide highly skilled and specialised Mammography for patients within the radiographic department
  • Producing mammograms to an optimum diagnostic quality
  • Communicating with the radiography team members and liaising with other disciplinary teams
  • Keeping accurate records and updating records when needed
  • Taking part in clinical audits
  • Ensuring a high standard of patient care is maintained throughout

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To participate in the day to day running of the mammography service, managing a specialist caseload.

To provide specialist training and to act as a mentor for mammography students, regardless of grade.

To authorise and prioritise patient requests for mammography and to arrange further appointments for the patient e.g. Ultrasound.

To assess mammographic images and make autonomous decisions on the need for additional views/imaging as required.

Undertake Quality Assurance protocols and sensitometry on a daily basis in mammography.

To undertake audit as required to ensure best possible practise and patient satisfaction.

Undertake imaging examinations and clinical supervision of junior staff in a professional and efficient manner, ensuring a patient centred service is delivered.

Supervise, guide and support junior staff to ensure consistently high standards of clinical and technical care to patients and to minimise clinical risk and incidents.

Accurately input patient data into RIS / PACS system as part of the work pattern and understand how to troubleshoot basic problems with these systems.

Be committed to data quality within the Directorate, understanding the importance of this in patient care, and minimising clinical risk. Ensure junior staff give high level of importance to data quality on all Trust IT systems.

Process and present imaging for diagnostic reporting or evaluation within the Radiology departments.

Ensure all examinations are carried out in a timely, efficient and professional manner within the rostered work area.

Take an active role in the training, education and mentoring of multidisciplinary staff and students.

Understand and participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance programmes and strategies for the Trust.

Liaising with the Modality Managers and other senior staff, promote, provide information about and manage the introduction of new imaging techniques, protocols and patient pathways associated with what is considered best practice in diagnostic imaging, ensuring junior staff and students are updated and trained appropriately.

Seek information from other imaging departments and Trusts about current imaging techniques and protocols, and to notify more senior staff of any innovations and changes that would improve local services.

Comply with all relevant statutory regulations and Trust rules policies and procedures and participate in the training of Radiation Protection issues to other staff groups as required.

Ensure co-operative, respectful and productive team working within the multi-disciplinary environments of modern healthcare.

Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and undergo additional training and education as identified at appraisal.

Have a flexible approach to working hours by mutual agreement.

To participate in on-call / standby or shift system arrangements as required and by agreement.

To hold additional selected responsibilities within the team structure, by agreement and as delegated by the Clinical Modality Manager/Radiology Services Manager.

Within other speciality areas of the department, undertake examinations in accordance with the needs and protocols within that area, and only after appropriate training has been undertaken and relevant competencies have been reached and assessed.

  • POST GRADUATE QUALIFICATION IN BREAST IMAGING AT MASTERS LEVEL
  • HCPC REGISTRATION+ CPD PORTFOLIO
  • JUNIOR MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Desirable criteria

  • TRAINING IN SUPERVISORY SKILLS.
