Retail Cost and Operations Manager (Maternity Cover)

The successful candidate will be producing periodic expenditure reports for all JD Sports Fashion plc retail fascias (UK, European and APAC) based upon Store Consumables Orders and Coupa data. Supporting the Group Purchasing team with presenting data and suggestions to business stakeholders from multiple divisions.

• Working rota - Monday to Friday

• Working hours - 8:30am to 5:00pm, 40 Hours Per Week.

Role Overview:

JD Sports Fashion plc ("JD") is a FTSE100 organisation with a growing global presence and an indirect procurement spend in excess of £1bn. This role will provide support to the Group - UK and International, engaging with colleagues ranging from store to Head of Department level.

  • Monthly reporting on store expenditure to drive improvement in operational efficiency and create opportunity for significant savings
  • Work closely with finance, retail and VM teams to suggest and implement operational change, review specifications and identify areas of cost reduction
  • Support UK and International retail stores, using data to forecast store demand, and identify opportunities for savings across all major Group fascias
  • Engage with colleagues from multiple JD Group divisions, subsidiaries and external suppliers

What You'll Be Doing:

As a Sourcing and Data Manager, you'll be doing the following:

Lead manager for the provision of retail store expenditure reporting. Point of escalation for Group Purchasing queries and support for consumables provision to JD Group stores globally. Working towards savings delivery through ensuring that reporting and systems improvements are undertaken in accordance with Group and sector best practice. Including but not limited to:

  • Provision of support to the JD VM and Retail Operations teams on revenue budgets, embedding savings, and developing business cases for new projects and changes
  • Point of escalation for an existing team of three colleagues, allocating responsibility for purchasing-related support to UK and European retail operations, and to central office functions
  • Point of cover for any absence of purchasing managers to ensure continued service provision to the wider business / store operations
  • Supporting Sourcing Managers with forecasting consumables usage, assisting with order volumes/reviews for key consumables where necessary
  • Utilising the P2P platform (Coupa) to analyse store consumable spend, identifying any areas of high spend and potential savings
  • Contributing to Group ESG goals appertaining to; i) Climate Change, ii) Sustainable Sourcing and iii) Recycling and the Circular Economy
  • Contributing to, and implementing procurement simplifications and efficiencies for Retail colleagues
  • Use global expenditure data to identify opportunities for retail consumable (and related) savings opportunities across our worldwide retail operations
  • Utilising Group Finance platforms and templates to assist with creating framework Purchase Orders, tenders and eAuctions to ensure financial and operational transparency

What We're Looking For:

  • Ideally graduate with excellent numeric and analytical skills
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills are essential, combined with an understanding of the importance of attention to detail.
  • Ability to use spreadsheets efficiently and automate processes to manage large volumes of data
  • Experience within a fast-paced commercial environment (preferably via finance, project management or business analyst-type roles). Experience of working in-store/ in an operational retail environment is beneficial, but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop strong working relationships engaging and building relationships with business stakeholders from multiple divisions (Finance, Energy, Property, Retail, Marketing, Multi Channel etc.)
  • To work as part of a team with a flexible approach and the ability to multitask and effectively manage own workload
  • The ability to successfully balance your own objectives with the ever-changing needs of retail and divisional colleagues
  • Confidence to own problems/issues and propose solutions
  • Diligent and dependable providing attention to detail
