Solicitor/Senior Solicitor (1-3+ years PQE) - Charities & Third Sector

JOB PURPOSE
We have an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor or Senior Solicitor (1-3+ years PQE) to join Scotland's largest Charities & Third Sector team in Edinburgh or Glasgow. We are looking for an ambitious solicitor who wants to be part of a team of charity specialists providing advice to charity and third sector clients. Those clients include the broadest range of those operating in the sector including a large number of Top 300 charities ranked in Scotland. That ensures interesting and challenging work of the highest quality often in areas of developing law and governance.
We are looking for a lawyer with a passion and interest in the sector and an empathy for that client base. Whilst this opportunity is not restricted in any way, experience of corporate or private client work could be an advantage.
The successful candidate can expect client contact from the outset with a range of clients, including trustees, senior management teams, individual and family philanthropists, CSR arms of businesses, community groups and institutions; from all over Scotland, the UK and beyond. The role will involve working closely with experts across practice areas, which are currently top ranked within Charities in Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500.
CORE TASKS
- The successful candidate will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of work as follows:
- Drafting and amending all types of charity constitutions
- Drafting OSCR application forms for charity establishment, mergers, winding up and prior consent
- Dealing with advisory and governance matters
- Dealing with charity and corporate regulatory and compliance matters
- Involvement in the administration of grant giving charities
- Providing philanthropy advice to high-net-worth clients
- Participating in the team's business development activities
- Being aware of Brodies' information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times
PERSON SPECIFICATION & SKILLS
- 1-3+ years' experience of working with charities or with corporate, private client or public law experience is preferred, but not essential
- A passion for and interest in the sector
- An ability to transfer and develop existing skills
- Committed to the highest level of client care and service
- Works to understand the team's key clients, their requirements and the challenges they face
- Committed to taking personal responsibility to learn on the job and keep knowledge up to date
- Excellent attention to detail
